BMW ultimate drive event
Today I drove 640i GC vs CLS 550. I thought that 640 had a much better handling compared to CLS but later was much more comfortable, had a throaty muffler sound and superior acceleration and responsiveness. The interior in general looked however a decade old in MB compared to GC. I think it was merely the difference between a 6 and a 8 cylinder. I assume 650 GC will outpace CLS in every aspect.

I recently drove the CLS550 and 640i GC as well. Very unimpressive (CLS) inside and out. That motor was an absolute beast but everything around it was archaic and holding it back, from the terrible tech, to the "meh" too-geriatric-for-this-class interior, to the floaty suspension, to the laggy and lousy transmission. The car just felt very clinical, cold and emotionless, I literally got motion sickness from it.
Getting back in my F10 my car felt like a well balanced scalpel in comparison, and I felt the interior felt a notch above at the very least. The 6 GC is definitely a far more precise car than the CLS (and I'm talking "just" the 640i GC against the CLS550). The CLS doesn't have such a sporty seating feel and position so I can get how it'd feel more comfortable, but for me at 6'4 the tradeoff was terrible headroom to the point where I could barely even sit in or drive the thing.

After the event I drove back in my 13 DS2 550, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I think it's handling is little less precise compared to GC, but not that much for a day to day drive. No match to the power and acceleration.
One thing I noticed is that GC sits lower compared to F10, at least an inch, that may be the difference here. |

The steering on the GC is incredible and indeed it did feel more precise and like a scalpel than the F10. Which says something as inherently the chassis is more handicapped, with the chassis sitting higher off the ground, being heavier, and being larger ONLY in overhangs, i.e proportionally not as efficient.
However, I found myself longing for my F10 during my test drive with the GC. The F10's seating position, seats, and entire interior felt more comforting and "right" to me. Also, I couldn't do burnouts in the 640i M Sport at all, while my 535i M Sport will do them all day long like an old school Muscle Car. Not sure of why.

I think we all drove the same demo Space Gray 640 GC
It got me to order the B&O (although GC has much better speaker positioning) Loved it but at that price...well at that price - now that's the car I'd get! But I craved the F10 because of the softer smoother ride it had. So if I get bored of that and money is at the right place then I have my answer. Unless X4 offers comfort dynamics dampening, than that is the next car. I too agree that the seats in the F10 are much better - I just could not get a comfortable in the GC seats from a convertible they stole from a coupe.

Lol, now that's how a car gets around. One thing that upset me about the GC was that it didn't feel as fast as my F10, nor as peppy. Worst of all for its case, my 535i with SAT can rip the tires loose (burnout) from a standstill, which to my dismay could NOT be done with the 640i GC.
I kept wondering why, posted about it, and FINALLY someone said that apparently that 640GC we all passed around was an X Drive. Was this true for you guys? That would explain the inferior power feel (more weight, less power to the wheels, more wheels to turn) and lack of tire tire spinning (when wanted).
