What's the big deal? A 550i owner purchased a 528i bumper and remapped his exhaust to just one side. He's a minimalist.

I can't tell you how embarrassed I am that I had to look at that photo twice to see the issue.

I guess it is just so imcomprehensible to me that anyone would bother. Those that know our cars and thus appreciate the different engine types can likely see the charade anyway (except maybe me); those that don't won't give a rat's butt what numbers are on the back of a car.

Funny, but kind of sad.

Maybe to the 99% they won't notice anything, but the driver is just lying to himself, he doesn't have a 400HP V8 under the hood, he has a 240HP inline 4! What's the point of doing that.

I just think it's pretty pointless.

Psychologically, I don't think people do that to show that they have a bigger and faster engine.
It's more of an social economical status thing.
When people see a 528 = low tier model ~50-60k
When people see a 550 = highest model ~80-90k

Another thing I realized is (i'm a psych major so I analyze a lot):
It's more of the younger guys that tend to debadge and put M5, etc.
The reason is to impress the girls. 99% of girls don't know the difference between a 528 vs 535 vs 550. All they know are M5, M3 and such. So If a guy pulls up in a 525 with an M5 badge or 550. She'll probably think he's rich.
