Rear Seat Entertainment Retrofit
I'm trying to figure out how I can retrofit RSE to my 2011 550i. I have two small kids, and this would be beneficial for them. Not my favorite spot to spend money on mods, but hey, kids are first.
Sooo...does anybody have any ideas? I've looked at the BMW kit for $600, and it's not well integrated at all. It's really just a couple of screens with one DVD. No controls in the front, no playing through the speakers, and the remote control is the only control mechanism...not gonna work. Has anyone else thought of ways to do this? I tried searching, and it seems like no one has really cracked this.

Not a DVD solution but I just bought an iPad headrest bracket, attached it to passenger seat headrest. Insert ipad (or any tablet, one we bought is universal fitting) and you're done.
Bracket fits well and bonus is when you get where you are going just take iPad out and use at destination. With the rise of tablets and now decent brackets I really cannot see DVD rear entertainment options surviving much longer. Now I just need to find an app that will let my wife control said iPad from her front seat using Bluetooth to save her having to reach around whenever he wants program changed |

I just bought the Grip Daddy Bracket for my 550 and its perfect.
http://gripdaddymounts.com/v2arm.html I use it all the time for my kids on road trips and its puts the IPad right in the center between the two front seats. If you decide to order make sure you tell them you need bigger hooks for the BMW. The hooks that come with it are too small for the thick posts on the headrest. |

Yep, but that is a factory system, not added at the dealer, right? If so, I wonder if I can retrofit it?

Great thread! I too am interested in options for getting rear entertainment screens in my F10 w/ contour front seats.
I like the idea of iPad (tablet) brackets, ONLY if they look factory clean. I have a grey interior, so this visual integration can get tricky. |

i wish i had the factory RES. the ipad thing is great if you have older kids. i have a 1.5 yr old and i want to be able to control the dvd from the front. my wife wont let me take my car on road trips because of the lack of RES which is annoying.. in the city it's not a problem but sometimes on a 8-10 hr drive you need something to keep them distracted lol

That is a great tip OzDriver.
No one has mentioned the official BMW iPad holder: http://www.bmw.com/com/en/owners/acc...ity/index.html |

Best I can find:
http://www.raysmith.co.uk/europlogic...series-x3.html Looks OEM. Does anyone know if the pro nav system has an output that could send DVD / nav pictures etc to this? |

Why not go for this option http://www.bmw.ie/ie/en/owners/acces...rtainment.html, cheaper support all formats, you can also move it between cars, remove the screens when not in use...
