Guys has anyone else experienced instabilities w the idrive entertainment system? Haven't been able to replicate many of the hang ups but here are a few things I've experienced:

1. No sound from iPod on start up
2. Track name doesn't get highlighted in the current playlist (just artist & album)
3. Preprogrammed keys not responding
4. Random start up pages (i.e. may start at current playlist, external device list, home screen etc.)

My older BMW fitted with aftermarket Denison iPod interface is much more stable. The interface in my 997 has been problem free fro 2 years!

Anyone else with such instabilities? Suggestions or experiences welcome...

Yes, a lot of bugs, specially random start up screens. Since I daily have a lot of short drives, almost every time when I start up the car I need to select track playing to show properly on screen manualy again.

Shame. I will request a software upgrade.

only thing i find odd is the random time it takes to start up - sometimes its up and running almost as soon as the engine starts - other times it take about 5 minutes before i can do anything.

Works like a charm.
My iPod (classic, 160 Gb) is not entirely stable though, and crashes once a month on average.

Have you checked the BMW iPod compatibility table?

I've experienced #1, #2 and #4. #4 is the worst, random start up screens is very frustrating. How hard can it be to program the system to always return tho where it was? I find that if the first thing I do is reverse, it the camera turns on, and then when I select drive, the screen returns to the current playlist (or radio station). I have tested this, if a screen I wasn't expecting comes up after starting the car, put it in reverse, then drive and the correct screen will appear every time. So you shouldn't back into parking spots with this car, you'll just have to fiddle with the idrive if you do!

Same here, but my 5 minutes is more like 20 seconds. Still, seems to happen with no rhyme or reason...

I'm very surprised about the varying levels of instabilities. Frankly for such s large manufacturer of mid-luxury vehicles, would have expected more development of these interfaces...

Also the programmable buttons occasionally work making them useless too...

Is anyone aware of a software update?
