Reverse gear

Do your cars make a funny whistling noise while reversing? (8 speed auto)

Not in my 535d; is the noise coming from the transmission area or elsewhere?

It sounds like it comes from the transmission. But only when reversing. I took it to the agents but they say there is nothing wrong?

I get a weird (plastic grinding?) noise when reversing and uphill - e.g. when exiting my underground garage where I have to reverse to manage to do the 90 degree turn ;-) Normally though I don't have it.

Sounds like it might be the lower edge of the rear valance grounding on the slope.

Well... it sounds more like... rubber friction... Come to think of it it's pretty scary. It got even scarier when I googl'ed bmw reverse grinding noise. It doesn't happen always though - I have to be reversing on a slope with my wheel turned and I usually have Auto-H engaged at that point. I'll play around to identify the exact circumstances.

OP: Does it happen every time? Does it happen when reversing straight or only when the steering wheel is turned (which seems to be my situation)?
