Alignment? Do F10's need something special?
So my car is in for service (2012 528, non-sport reg. suspension) and the SA calls me and says I need an alignment. First he says $600, but has a coupon for $350. I tell him no thanks I'll get it done at my independent BMW shop and he says that F10's need a certian type of alignment due to the steering.
After calling some local reputable BMW shops, I was quoted about $120 for a 2012 F10 alignment. I never had one done on my car... is it ok to take it to an outside shop? CT |

$600 was the first offer for an alignment before their "coupon" came into play? Some people on this forum are getting springs done and alignment for that. Yikes. $350 is still robbery.

These dealers should be aware that people TALK... both when they have a good OR bad experience. Telling someone they need a $600 alignment and then offering a $350 coupon is just plain robbery. I think this dealer (and thank you for sharing their name) will lose some business with others who read this forum as a result of your experience.
It's one thing to sell a $99 part for $109 and be considered "expensive" compared to the local competition. It's another to charge someone 2x - 4x the going rate and pretend like you're doing them a favor. Disgusting.

Ezmaass... I agree with you 100 percent. I can take an up sell within reason but to hear some people are charged 150 for an alignment and he said 600 is crazy!

BMW dealers may have the BMW AG recommended alignment machine called KDS: http://www.hunter-d.de/us/product/OE...E-05/index.htm It works very well due to its software somehow customized for our cars. I did the KDS alignment twice in two years, once - when solved the famous "F10 pulling to the right" issue, the second - when put 20" wheels. Works perfectly, paid $150. If the dealer is asking for more - there is something totally wrong.

Thanks for the input guys... Im going to call a few other dealers in the area tomorrow morning. This way, when the SA calls me I can hopefully hit him with a way lower price and see what he has to say about it.

haven't brought my F0 there. I usually bring mine at BMW Encinitas...They keep it real with you...They even work with tag motorsports and have them mod some of their cars

Just find an independent shop with a hunter wheel alignment machine. This is what BMW and all other top brands use. Haven't had my F10 done but on my previous X5 I saved over £300 getting it done privately. The machine is computer controlled and my tech showed me exactly which adjustment points were out on the screen, adjusted them and then gave me print out at the end showing that all points were within tolerance

Update:
So after calling 3 dealers in San Diego, 2 quoted me $199 for alignment and 1 said $399. The dealer that said 399 gave me the same excuse my dealer gave me... "F chassis cars are different and take twice as long". What's going on!?? What are you guys paying for F10 alignments? |

$150!!!! You can't let these SA run all over you. Take charge in the conversation and do your research. C'est la vie!!!

I am lowered on ACS springs and just paid $109 for an alignment earlier this month. I did read that X-Drives are aligned a bit differently and many shops can't do a full 4 wheel alignment on X-Drives because they don't have the right equipment.

I recently had a four wheel alignment at the BMW dealership here in Austin on my E70 X5. Cost me $199, and that's an all day long price.

Well I picked up my car and the SA didnt say anything more about the alignment. I'll take it to an independent shop here in San Diego to have it done.
If i understand correctly.. every F10 car has active steering? |
