It's funny, I thought the navi was great because I would set points of interest I'm already familiar with, and it would get me there in the same direction and seemed like real time accuracy.

I ended up going on a trip to NJ and the navi was horrible. It would warn me too late that a round-about was coming up, so as I entered it would quickly try and tell me to take the first exit, I would miss it, and it would take forever to re-route me (over 45 seconds!). After going around this same round about 2-3 times, I used my phones navigation (android navigation) and it brought me where I needed to be on the first try.

I hope BMW can do something as I feel the navi needs a lot of work.

I Find it interesting that there seems to be issues in parts of the US with the navi and none in Europe. Either the software and or hardware is not the same or bmw has bad map data in parts of US.

This Navi is terrible, horrible, shame on BMW ,

The graphics and display are very good, but the directions generally are not..and they have gotten worse, wrong direction , wrong corners ,wrong streets , It gets confused frequently, and has given me conflicting instructions on several occasions, the nav system on this car is a disgrace , takes me on inconvenient detours, wrong addresses in the POI, BMW switched from navteq to Tele Atlas in the US, not in Europe, Tele Atlas seems to be the reason the navi sucks so much.

Sounds very bad… Have you guys thought of making any complaint to BMW directly?

Yes noticed the compliants seem to be from the US. Perhaps a different supplier of data?
I'm in the Uk and no compliants about the map data on my car.

Garage List
No issue in UK + Europe with Premium HDD SatNav 2011/2012

Used Premium HDD SatNav 2011 license extensively in UK and Europe and have had no issues at all; it iss quick, accurate and service like real-time traffic information and re-routing work well

Have recently used the Premium HDD SatNav 2012 license in UK and did find the 3D data too extensive in London and Birmingham, enough that all the 3D buildings can sometimes obscure the route (fixed by changing scale to 250 yards or less)

Content/Data complaints look like they are a US issue.
The Sat Nav license upgrade itself is ridiculously priced at over £250.

Well I have used mine extensively throughout the UK and in Spain and it's superb. Of course you do need to make sure that your 'Route Criteria' is set appropriate to how you want to travel but even then the alternative routes that are indicated on the screen allow you switch routes really easily. And the 'send routes to the car' facility via Google maps on your home PC is just brilliant. Of course the system is hugely more expensive than a very capable TomTom or similar but the fact that I don't have to remove a portable system from the windscreen every time I leave the car makes it worthwhile as far as I am concerned.

I'm going to jump on this thread instead of starting a new one..

I learned the hard way on our current trip (SAN-Carson City-Leavenworth, WA- SAN) to make sure the preferences are correct. Between Carson City and Leavenworth I had "shortest" selected... BIG MISTAKE!! The NAV took us on about 100 miles of Forest Service roads with about a 20 mile dirt road detour. 'Twas the shortest but certainly wasn't the quickest! Those Forest Service roads were even hard to find on google maps!
