Sorry - Another winter wheels thread!

Hi All,

Sorry for dragging up the same old subject again, but i'm just trying to work out my best options for next winter early, and wondered what everyone's experiences etc had been.

My dilemma is whether to get a set of 17" wheels with 225/(45 or 50)/17 winter tyres on to swap over and use through the winter, or to just get a set of 245/45/18 & 275/40/18 winters for my standard 350M alloys.

Would a set of 17's be better in the snow compared to a set of 18's with the same spec winter tyres??

I got through last winter on standard tyres in my F20 1 series, but with the F10 being the same weight as a small battle ship, i think winter tyres are going to have to happen whether i like it or not.

Thanks in advance guys and girls.

Both 17" and 18" winters will be a huge improvement of summers on ice and snow. The 17" is 225/55/17.

But the choices in 275/40/18 winters are slim to none, but you can go 245/45/18 all around.

The difference are the rear wheels, on the xDrive models they're 18x8 with 245/45/18 tires, while on F10 with rwd the wheels are staggered with 18x9 rear wheels and 275/40/18.

I ran a set of 17" winter tyres this winter just gone. 225/55/17 All round - Dunlop Winter Sport 3D tyres.

See here for a few posts: http://f10.5post.com/forums/showthre...1041389&page=2

I think you'll be fine with 17" or 18". I thought it was better to get a separate set of alloys & tyres instead of swapping the rims over. Found it to be less hassle and easier.

I didn't get OEM alloys for my winters though, but the Borbet alloys I got were great. No issues.

Thanks Junebug,

It looks good on those wheels. I've seen MrWinterWheels before (nearly got a set for my F20 1 series), but they dont seem to offer them with the Dunlops as an option anymore Would be cheaper to get a set of 18 tyres for my standard 18's, and thiking of getting either some 351 19's like yours for my main wheels, or possible some other 19/20's.

Would recommend Nokian Hakkapeliitta R2 (if u go non-studded route)
