Advice: spark plugs
I have a 2012 535 and need to replace the spark plugs soon. I do have a jb+ Tune, with 42k miles. I’ve noticed a few guys going with aftermarket spark plugs and coils. Any recommendations on which one to go with, and how did they workout for you? Thanks

I would stick with the oem coils and spark plugs... I believe only guys going with diff plugs or diff gaps on the plugs are those with alot of boost and high e85 mixes.

NGK 1 step colder spark plugs.... BMS sells them.
Or buy replacement Bosch spark plugs from anywhere. I have NGK 2 step colder gapped to 20 with my 2011 F10 535i FBO JB4 I'm no expert, so wait for some pros to chime in |

Stock plugs are more than sufficient for you, the JB+ hardly counts as a tune. Fresh new plugs are all you need. They are due every 37k stock, and you should tighten that interval if you're pushing significantly higher boost.

Did my plugs a couple weeks ago when I added the JB4. With only 36k miles on the car it was probably not necessary, though it's one of those can't hurt/might help scenarios. I went one step colder than OEM due to the tune, occasional use of E85 and potential for more mods soon. Other than the need for a thin wall socket it was pretty standard. Like all spark plug changes, I don't notice a difference at all, lol. Anyway, here is what I used:
NGK 95770 ILZKBR7B8DG Laser Iridium Spark Plug, (Pack of 1) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00UDK58Z4?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf ABN Thin Wall 14mm 12-point Spark Plug Socket BMW 3/8 Inch Drive https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01BUI5YEW?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf

Hmm, I'm not familiar with what the e60 required, but the wall thickness of a standard 14mm spark plug socket will not work on an f10 because the outer diameter is too large to fit down the metal housing the ignition coils sit in.

Burger tuning sells the thin walled socket that works well... I'm thinking of going with stock N20 plugs as some others have done.

I was meaning to share that BMS reccommended 2 steps colder plugs for a FBO+ N55 because 1 step colder would not much of a difference over stock. You should try 2 steps colder... mine have been pretty good to me, but I can only imagine the stage 2 turbo difference with them. I'm fiending for a ps2 turbo spool soundtrack from you! |

Sorry, haven't done much lately, but I have been messing with some new maps from BM3 as backends to JB4. Honestly, most of my focus has been on my e36, I am trying to get it on track to do some road racing next weekend.
I had to take a major step back last month since I had to pass emissions. That is done now. 2 years from needing to worry about that again. Understand, aside from chasing dyno numbers, there just isn't much more to do. The car runs great and makes great power. It does exactly what I want. It is fast when I want it to be, or I can take my family on road trips and it is a nice BMW. I did put a Camaro to shame a couple of nights making some logs. That will never get old.

I just changed the plugs in my 528i. I used this socket. No chance of the socket coming off the extension and then trying to figure out how to retrieve it. Worked well.

Guys
I have a 2011 Bmw 535 xdrive with RKtunes. It is recommended that I use step 2 colder spark plug which I got in Jan\2020 - NGK 97506 Plugs SILZKBR8D8S I have seen NGK 97506 Plugs SILZKBR8D8S as step 1 and step 2 colder plugs, I think their Step 2 colder for 2011 Bmw F10 N55 engine. Can someone confirm? Also these should be gapped at 20 per what I have read? If I leave gap at stock what is the negative impact to car’s performance. Also I had cylinder 6 misfire code and I replaced all 6 of my ignition coils and issue so far seems to be resolved but should I also replace the spark plugs? I have Fcp lifetime warranty on the ngk 97506 plugs. Last edited by Razmataz1; 06-30-2021 at 02:10 AM.. |
