F10 European 520D CHIP TUNING

Does anybody tested any kind of tune (chip) system that works without jeopardysing the whole system?

Tnx for posting answer and link :-)

Anyone tried a tuning box? Don't fancy the idea as it may harm the engine but happy to be proved wrong.

I've had a spider tuning box running since december, no problems and 230bhp. Wallop!

Did you have any problems setting it up? Have looked at the spider and also chipexpress but not sure which to go for. Any advice welcome.

I had a spider box on my e90 for almost 4 Yeats with no issues. When I changed cars they exchanged free of charge for a brand new model for the f10. It is much harder to find the connection but once located it's not to difficult.

Wouldn't be without it to be honest the difference is immense. So much more power but yet do smooth.

I found this Chip Express model for the UK : BMW 5 Series F10 520d Diesel Tuning Box

I have no experience with these. I read the FAQ section of their site. Is it true that these chips can increase peformance and fuel economy?

They also state "Vehicle manufacturers are forced to compromise when they set up the engine's ECU, to create vehicles which will operate in a wide variety of markets and conditions." ... is this correct?

Cheers

Performance yes without doubt. Fuel economy yes if you drive like a granny. Unfortunately with all that extra power at your disposal the last thing you will do is take it easy.

Very good ... that is just it ... I do quite often drive like a granny. However the ability to have a spirited drive now and again is also enjoyable ... even by grannies.

Also - a note to the original poster - I think this is the section of the site you should be asking this question : Engine, Transmission, Exhaust, Drivetrain, ECU Software Modifications

I anticipate a moderator "thread moved" message any time soon!

I have the Chip Express Tuning Box installed. Makes a huge difference running around 230 BHP (not checked) As supplied manufacturer advises 224BHP, I upped the pot by 2 notches
