Passenger door lock slow in cold
I have an issue where my passenger door is slow to unlock but only when it's cold. Locking is just as fast as the other doors. Once the car warms up, locking and unlocking are just as fast as the other doors. I'm thinking about ordering an actuator, just in case. Is there any way to possibly lubricate it? It seems to me that it would always be slow if the part was starting to fail. Thoughts?

Had the same issue with my driver door closing and opening slower than other doors couple years back. Took the car in and it had it replaced under warranty.

Lube didn't seem to do much of anything. According to RealOEM it looks like the part I need is 51217202146. FCP Euro has a kit that includes the two front actuators with part #'s that match cars without soft lose doors. Strange thing is, it says it won't fit. Looks like I'll have to call them

Just spoke with dealer and they said the part number should be 51217229458. RealOEM shows this part as well as 51217202146. Does anyone know if they are interchangeable? Dealer wouldn't even entertain the idea of looking up the other part number

I'd go with the dealer's part number.

My passenger side was replaced under warranty with 51-21-7-202-146. My driver's side has now become slow just a month or so after extended warranty expiring. Sadly RealOEM is a little unclear about the difference between the various "System Latch, Left" options available I think it might be 51217202143, but sites like FCP says it isn't right (even though they didn't ask for my VIN).
I never had much trouble sourcing proper parts for my E39 or E90 - the F10 has been more frustrating. |

ezaircon4jc - Normally I would but the dealers in the Chicago are always seem to want to take the quick way. With My E46, I was told the wrong part number from the dealer a few times because "That's what the computer said"
Surly73 - Do you have an alarm and comfort access? I've seen numerous threads on the f30 boards that say people used the 51217202146 part when Real OEM listed both that and 51217229458. The kit I referenced earlier has both the left (43) and right (46) for only $66 |

The answer, though, is alarm, no soft close, comfort access - unsure about anti-theft. I'm not sure if that's the "double lock" they started on the E34 and kept right up through my E90. I'm not sure my F10 has that feature based on my fooling around. |

My recommendation would be to select the 11 digit part number were the answer to the supplemental option codes listed would apply.

2 actuators and still sticks
I have replaced the actuator now 2 times with BMW parts. as soon as it get below 32degrees F the door will open and then the latch does not close when the door is shut.
Everything is lubed properly, no water in the door (brand new part) My last mechanic gave up and said to take it to the dealer. I hate being stuck in my car. Anyone have any solutions? |
