Scratching the rims

Anyone find the 19'' factory rims(sports package) super easy to get scratched?

Pretty much any contact with the curb would scratch it.... my brother has 19'' rims with low profile tires on his S5 and you have to really hit the curb or run up the sidewalk to create any scratch.. unfortunately, my F10 rims can't handle ANY CONTACT with ANYTHING...

I think you'll find that in a war, concrete wins over aluminium everytime. Yes, amazingly, when you rub your rims against a curb, you will get damage.

Your brother may have a tyre profile that includes a special bead that sticks out from the sidewall that prevents (up to a point) contact with curbs.

I mean it's clearcoat that scratches just as easy as any painted surface. Hard to imagine any wheel with a clearcoat finish not being scratched by even the slightest contact with a curb. Like "5er luvver" said, some tires may take the hit, but you'll then run the risk of breaking the outer rubber surface of the tire (done that before).

You just need to be super careful when you park and get out of the car if necessary to check the distance to the curb.

If you get oversized tires, that will reduce the contact issue. The S5 tires probably stick out from the rim more than the BMW ones.

All wheels scratch just as easily in contact with concrete. It's common sense. Take a stone to your brothers wheel if you don't believe me.

There are a few shops in my area that will repair/refinish wheels. I would imagine someone near you can do it.

Yes, there are special wheel repair shops, usually cost around $100 per wheel

Yeah, I hit the curb with my 356 right front wheel when parking. The rim was seriously damaged.
The dealer sent the wheel to a metal workshop, they polished it and the rim was returned like brand new. Cost me about 200 USD.

Just went thru a car wash and had front left wheel 'nicked'. Don't know how it happened but it did. (please save the colding with don't go thru the car wash...dont have the time or energy anymore to hand wash. Besides being a daily driver i expect alot of car washes during the winter months) Went to a local Pet Boys and they have a wheel repair kit ($20) that looks real good.
