Is the HUD (Head Up Display) distracting?
I am deciding whether I should get the HUD or not.
Would the HUD be distracting when you drive? That is my only concern. It looks cool though. |

I don't believe so at all. I love my HUD!
You can always turn it off if you don't like it. It does make it weird to drive in a car without HUD after being in one with it all the time... I often forget to look down at my speed since I'm not used to that |

HUD is spectacular. I liked it on my last 2 E60's and I ordered on my F10 550.

I thought it would be pointless until I just drove a 535i with the option. It's seamless and really cool. The passenger can't see it, not sure if you were in the back seat if you could either. Is it necessary? No. Is it cool? yes. I'd probably opt for something functional, like comfort access.

Have you tried a HUD?
It's pretty awesome for daily driving and at the track.

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."

When just driving around the city, all that's displayed is the current speed. Not very distracting. If anything, it's more convenient. I find I don't have to take my eyes off the road at all. On the highway, it adds the cruise speed. Nice touch. The only time it could be considered "distracting" is with Nav guidance on. It'll tell you the name of the next turn, which way to turn, and how far away it is. If you really don't know where you're going, though, it's quite convenient to have in front of you.

I sure liked it on the M5 I drove during the one-day M Driving School at the PDC in Spartanburg. Definitely on my list of gotta-have-it-cuz-it's-cool options. :-)
