You don't really have to "break in" the car technically speaking with all the advancements in technology, however.... I personally like going easy on the car for the first 1000 miles. Going easy means smooth acceleration to highway speeds, trying not to exceed 3500RPM and avoid hard braking.

What's the user manual saying about breaking in the car?

page 156. Modern engines and lubricants have been vastly improved over the years and the old-fashioned running-in practices are less applicable these days.
It's important that you don't overload the engine, but if you have an auto that's not an issue. However, you should vary the RPM range as much as possible, whilst keeping below the recommended maximums for the first 1200 miles. Thereafter, gradually begin to open it up and enjoy the car.
In the early stages do not sit on the motorway at a steady RPM for mile after mile; keep the revs varied or you'll end up with an oil burning engine.

Take it easy Jon - maybe he does not have his car yet and does not know that you can download the Manual ahead of time... So peace

I think if you re-read my post you'll see that I took the time to give, what I and a lot of my fellow engineers consider to be, sound advice.
Yes, I started off with a bit of a dig, but it was nothing more than that and, most certainly, absolutely no offence was intended.

No offense taken, I have broad shoulders. Your advice is gratefully accepted and The car is due in Feb. I will track down the manual! Has anybody got the relevant link?

Thanks for your support!
