Potential 528 buyer!
So I think after a month of obsessively reading the forum and scouring ads, I think we found the one with the color combo (White/tan) and are going to look at it Monday night.
528 with X Drive, Cold weather, Nav/rear Camera. That has what we are looking for in options. 27,000 mi, good CarFax. A lease return bought at auction and has been at the dealer since 5/3/13. Asking $38,000. Non-BMW dealer so not CPO'd. I'm trying to get a handle on what's a good price? Different sources say it's a few hundred under book, but I thought I'd ask the real world folks. We are wanting $35k or below and are just writing a check. (I know, we could get something great on lease new, but my wife is a pay cash and own for 8-10 years person.) This board has been a huge resource, and thanks in advance! |

I assume we are talking about a 2011 528xi? For that age, mileage & options ... $35k seems too high to me. My lease on my well optioned ($71k MSRP) 2011 535xi M-Sport ends in 5 months, and the buy-out is only $39k ... I would expect a lower-optioned 528xi to be about $30k at this point in time |

Another point for the OP is the engine. The 2011 528i is N52, normally aspirated six. The current model, with the N20 4, is a little peppier and more economical. That should tend to push the market price of the 2011 down. |

There aren't too many options on the car, it sounds like. Auction prices for that car range from $32,000 at the high end to $27,000 at the low end. Average auction mileage is 29k - so you're not that far below average. So, $38k is about a fair "ask" for a dealer. However, you should easily be able to come down from that. For one, he's been sitting on the car for 6 months, which should make him motivated. He's tied up lots of cash and lost money already. I think you should easily be able to get it for $35k, and if you're a tough negotiator for even less. How much is an equivalently equipped car going for on other sources? How much do you love this particular one?
Also - @Birch check PM for a report I sent you.
