No more inspection over due warning?
Just received a ticket because the inspection on my '13 535xi M sport expired in August. I couldn't understand how I missed that...Then it hit me, my previous BMW's all had reminders for inspection.
In looking through all of the settings in the iDrive, has BMW done away with this feature? If so, that's a bummer! |

Probably NY state. My car had a reminder for the CA inspection, for no reason I could determine. People can figure out on their own where they are and what government compliance is required.

It's not a question of not knowing when it's due, (in NY your car needs to be inspected by a certified mechanic every year). It's the fact of actually remembering that it needs to be done. My previous BMW's had a setting in the car's maintenance status to automatically remind you when it's due.
Yes of course I could put a reminder on my phone, but that would be too easy. |

How would your car know when your inspection is due when it varies for everyone? None of my past BMW's did this for emissions inspection.

My '08 model gave me an inspection warning earlier this year. It took me some time to figure out what the warning even meant (nothing resembling the icon -- § -- in the Owner's Manual, of course). According to my dealer, it was an inspection requirement for another state. I don't find this helpful. Just another example of GIGO.

In NY when you purchase a car the dealer prep crew sets the inspection notification to remind you one year from the date of purchase. After that date comes, the warning notification appears in the information center. The only way to reset the notification is to enter a new date (which would be in a year).
