There's a good reason they "forgot" to include the new A6 3.0T in that comparison. It would have absolutely destroyed the other three.

Have you driven one? And I'm talking about 3.0T Quattro specifically, not some European market model with FWD and a 1.3L diesel engine...

1/4 mile:
535i - 14.1 @ 96.8
A6 - 13.6 @ 102.0

Skid pad, 200-ft. diameter (lateral g):
535i - 0.88
A6 - 0.90

Braking, 60-0 mph (ft.):
535i - 118
A6 - 111

I'm not understanding the "Camry turd" comments. While I personally don't like any Lexus cars in general, including the GS, I do know it has nothing in common with a Camry. It is not, by any means, a rebadged Camry. It would be as silly as saying BMW 535 is a "Mini turd". Makes no sense, right?

When it comes to these differences, 1/4 mile figures etc I would not say that A6 destroys the BMW. I don' t give a f...k about it, what I am concerned about is how the car feels to drive, if it is fun or not. I think the 535i rocks, but as I have a 530d myself I would rather go for a 535d or the upcoming M550d xDrive !

Yes I have driven the A6 3.0 quattro and was not impressed... :

Everything comes down to personal preference. There are people out there who buy Buicks, so obviously they feel right to someone.

Personally, I was much more impressed with the A6 than I was with the 535i xdrive. Of the two, the A6 is definitely more of a driver's car. It's funny how over the past 10 years, BMW has been trying so hard to make the 5-series more like the A6 and E-class, while Audi was trying to make the A6 more like the 5-series. The result is that the roles are now reversed.

I had the same feeling about new A6, but I wouldn't say that BMW was trying to make 5-series like A6 or E-class, E60 was still much more driver car with proper steering. I think future fuel economy standards and "efficient dynamics" philosophy got BMW into fuel saving mode: electronic steering (suppose to be more efficient), stop-&-go system, 4-cyl. for North America, turbocharging instead of legendary NA engines (especially for M division). All of those things would make BMW fan go and 10 year ago.

You'd only think of the E60 as a driver's car if had never driven the E39. My parents had an E60 and while it was a nice, comfortable sedan, it clearly wasn't as driver-oriented as the older 5's. The F10 is just a further evolution of that trend.

About ten years ago, BMW decided that the 5-series needed more luxury and less sport. Can't really blame them, as that decision payed off with higher sales. I'm just glad the 3-series is still built with the enthusiast in mind.

Lexus is no doubt make good cars. I really liked IS & GS models but I think BMW is still one step ahead with style and performance. I don't even compare Lexus cars because they do look and perform like Toyota cars. Although GS is a good competitor, Im definitely more into BMW in every way!

I can really understand why Lexus has a big market in US. Lot of drivers comes from US cars and they really think the Lexus has a nice interior. But when comparing to BMW?
No matter what the japanese manufacturers are doing, they are lacking when it comes to interior refinement and design overall. They still have no elegance what so ever.

Here in Europe Toyota sells a lot of cars since the are cheap, but when Toyota thinks they can take BMW money for their cheaply built products, they don't sell any cars.
I would never ever consider a Lexus for BMW money. I would in fact prefer one of the newer Jeep Grand Cherokees or whatever.

Edit: I just looked at the swedish price list and the cheapest GS450 is, cough cough 18000$ more than a faster 535i?

The reason why Lexus has strong sales in US is because of reliability and better standard equipment. Many Americans read magazines like Consumer Report which tend to criticize Germans a lot for reliability issues.

And in Europe Lexus sales are much lower, the cars here are not significantly cheaper than the competition and the Lexus brand name is not strong enough vs BMW, Mercedes, Audi etc. However from what I have heard the Lexus dealers service level is superior to the rest of the premium brands...the others have a lot to learn.
