Software update

I enquirer about updating my Sat Nav at my local dealer. They offered me two options a full vehicle software update including Sat Nav for in the region of £160 or a cd/sub plug in option for the Sat Nav only for approx £60. My car is a 2014 520d luxury Touring.

Has anyone else done this?

I had my Satnav updated as a side-effect of something else and I preferred the old version. The new one has lost "Traffic Summary" which I really liked. It also spends too long zooming and tilting as the start of a route for no obvious benefit. I'd look at the 2017 software before you decide.

Is your car over 3 years old? If not you may have a map update for free. Have you used ConnectedDrive? This wil tell you.

That's interesting - I only want to update new roads that are missing. I'm quite happy with everything else.

My car is over 3 years (2014) I've just looked and £69.00 for 24mths. I have to download to a usb. Do you know I I need to leave the usb connected in the car all the time or just upload the update to the car?

You just plug it in and remove it once done. You can do it entirely for free, this link explains how:

http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1098074

Ignore the fact the thread started in 2014, the update process is the same. I've updated my maps a dozen times. Map Data and operating software are two entirely separate things.

You download the new maps via BMW Update Manager onto a 64GB usb, then upload to the HDD in the car via the centre console usb port. The upload to the car takes about 40-45 mins.

I am having trouble with mine, it freezes after it says update yes/no

It then says insert USB 1

Trouble is the USB is already connected

Spoke to BMW CS who said update the Connected Drive data, I did this but it's still not working.

Another call to BMW CS needed tomorrow

I'm having trouble too. After putting in the USB I get the ...update now message, but when I click on start update I get

"Navigation data in vehicle is incomplete/manipulated. Please have the system checked by service"

Then

"Please connect the usb device 1 to start the update" (the usb is already in, obviously)

Looks like a trip to the dealer when i can be bothered

I downloaded using the BMW update software and unpacked onto a 128Gb memory stick and all was fine for me. Took about 6 shorter journeys to finish the update but no errors.

So, I bought another USB drive, formatted it, unzipped the file that the downloaded saved and stuck it in the car.

It has started to update :yay:
