which run flat 275/35/19
Hi
I wonder if I could draw upon the forums knowledge. I have deceided to stick with runflats for the time being and wondered what peoples opinions were on the various brands. They are for rears 275/35/19 96Y. When I purchased the car it was shod with new Goodyear excellence and with 22k miles on them they are worn out. I have disregarded the following due to poor reviews: Falken Pirelli Pzero Bridgestone REO50A That leaves me with: Goodyear Excellence Michelin Primacy Bridgestone ER300 Turanza Dunlop Sport MaxGT Continental (although I cannot locate the correct rating) My milage is c18k per year and consists of a short commute comprising a mix of B roads and dual carriage way, and a fast 800 mile month round trip up the M40/M6/M74. A particular consideration I have is around wear, would Michelin give me xx% more mileage? Many thanks to anyone who is able to offer their views. |

I have recently changed the fronts from ER300 ( which is the old version ) to RE050A ( which is the new version ) and I have found them to be excellent, and we have had some pretty shocking weather in their first few thousand miles. Grip, braking and noise all good.

I have had Michelin Primacy on my 19" since new. I've covered 22000 miles and have according to my recent M.O.T. 6mm left on the front and 5mm left on the rears.
So from a longevity point of view, am pleased with these. (To be fair I'm not the sort of person doing doughnuts in the local Sainsbury car park so they get a easy life!) I'm not happy with the tramlining but I believe this is a trait of all RFT's not just these particular ones. Next time round, I might see if I can get super sports RTS if possible but failing that, I will probably go for Primacy again. |

I have Dunlops and ride/handling/noise are all good. However I have had two get sidewalk bubbles, never had this issue with Bridgestones on my previous BMW's. Another factor to consider is whether the tyre brand in question approves puncture repairs...

Didn't even contact them as they were on the car when I bought it and I had no proof of purchase and tyres that have had the issue have been pretty much ¾ of the way through their lifetime. However it's a common issue on certain brands especially the Goodyear tyres that seem to be fitted to many US cars. Generally caused by potholes or by parking on pavements, I don't do this so must be pothole damage...

Thanks for your comments.
I actually had a buldge on a front Dunlop runflat last year probably from an Edinbugh pot hole (sink hole). Which I replaced, not sure I would run the Dunlops again. I think I will run with either Goodyear or Michelin RFT's depending on the price at point of purchase. Goodyears are more competitively price circa 20% cheaper than Michelin from Camskill. So whilst Michelin may give more miles the additional mileage versus price seems to even out. Last edited by gtthree; 04-04-2016 at 05:28 AM.. |

Quick update to the thread.
In the end I purchased the Goodyear Excellence run flats from amazon at £176 each delivered. Have covered 23,000 on my original rear set they'd lasted well. Both tyres were at 2mm. I could probably have squeezed another 1,000 miles out of them but thought better of it. Interestingly I compared the overall cost to running Michelin primacy runflats. These were £213 each from Camskill (cheapest price in early April 2016), however in order to justify the increased purchase price of the tyres would need to last 27,835 mile which I was not confident they would. |

That said, if you want a max performance run flat for the staggered setup you don't have any options. Looks like the purely might be best. For those willing to shift (downgrade) to a touring/sport type tire, there's a few other good options such as the Michelin primacy ZP.

Currently running the ER300's which came with the car. I've hit the button on 3 PZero's, fitting tomorrow.

Having done 110k in my f11 530d msport IMHO avoid the goodyears - wet weather grip poor. Pirellis ok all round, contis good all round but best by far are the michelins on every parameter including the most important one - feel.

I have these and they look like they'll last 13-14k max at current wear rates on the rear.

I'm thinking of changing my runflats for just normal tyres... whilst the comfort on the motorway is excellent (and I appreciate the convenience of run flats - especially after a blowout on the M4 last year in the wifes old car) it's truly horrible driving around town.

I drive very very carefully and do about 50 miles per day to work and back on the M1. I just sit on the inside lane doing 70 max. As long as they last me until next Feb (new car probably a new 7 or S8), I'm not too concerned. Cheers.
