For those of you with the premium sound system, do you turn your surround sound on. Usually, I turn my surround sound off on all my sound systems because it sounds better without it. On the BMW's system, the surround sound is actually pretty good. I have try it both on and off and cannot decide which mode sounds better.

If the source is good quality (i.e. well engineered and prodoced CD or high bitrate MP3 etc.) then always off. For poor quality sources and radio broadcasts, the extra perceived depth of surround sound can help fill in for the shortfalls in quality elsewhere in the sound field. But each to their own - do whatever pleases your ears best.

Do a search on this forum for the Equalizer Settings that give the best sound. I can't remeber who published it, but they had done some research into and came up with a good sound. With it, you keep the surround off.

I am pretty good with the equalizer. It just that most surround sound in cars sounds like crap. This one is not bad, cant decide if I like it better on or off.

Only sounds better to me when listening to a DVD in 5.1 surround. All other sources sound better with surround OFF.
