High pitch squeak in BMW 525xd
BMW525d with x drive. 55,000 km. Automatic.
I have a continuous squeaking sound from the front of the car, it sounds like mice or chickens. It is audible when driving, it stops under breaking and on cornering on the overrun (foot off accelerator pedal) but continues if one accelerates round the bend. It is independent of engine speed. When the engine is stopped the noise continues for a second and terminates in a higher pitch squeak. The engine drive belts have been checked and the brake disks are not squeaking. The front steering and suspension have passed recent government testing with no play in any joint, there is no 'shimmy'. Doctorchris. |

Wouldn't be surprised if it isn't something to do with the alternator charging circuit and the alternator clutch. Latest generation 'phases' are governed by over-run, braking, etc. Description fits with alternator clutch engagement / disengagement.
