535d M-sport ordered
Weeks of late nights on the configurators are finally at an end. order signed, deposit paid.
Funnily enough I was actually going to get the new model A6 because audi is much better value then bmw in the uk, but it seems the LHD ordering is a bit dodgy with them. So, I came back to where I belonged anyway: BMW. My precious: F10 535d M Sport Saloon 416 Carbon Black NASW Black Exclusive Nappa leather 522 Xenon headlights 403 Electric Glass Sunroof 609 Navigation system-BMW Professional Multimedia 2ND 19" M Double-spoke style 351M alloy wheels 2VA Adaptive Drive 4BN Dark Ash-grain wood, high-gloss 4M5 Instrument panel, leather I was going to get a company to do this, but now it seems BMW can do it in the factory already 5DF Active Cruise Control with "Stop and Go" function 5DL Surround-view saw this for the first time in japan in a little nissan, great stuff 677 Loudspeaker system - BMW Professional Rest 2TB Sport automatic transmission 5AG Lane change warning system 502 Headlight wash 524 Adaptive Headlights 5AC High-beam Assistant 612 BMW Assist 616 BMW Assist online portal 620 Voice Control 633 Bluetooth phone prep + telematics 2VB Tyre pressure monitor 2VH Integral Active Steering 316 Bootlid operation, powered 319 Universal Remote Control 320 Model designation deletion 358 Climate Comfort windscreen 3AG Reversing Assist camera 415 Sunblind - rear windscreen, electric 416 Sunblinds for side and rear windows 430 Ext. mirrors - folding, auto dimming 456 Comfort seats, front 464 Through-loading ski bag 465 Split-folding rear seats 488 Lumbar support, driver and front pass. 496 Seat heating, rear 6NF Telephone USB audio interface 710 M Steering Wheel 715 M aerodynamic bodystyling 760 Exterior trim, High-gloss Shadowline 761 Sun protection glass 775 Headlining, Anthracite Now if only I could learn to be patient.. Planned updates: ACS springs. Thanks to EdwinF10 for the idea. his car is just awesome. Auxiliary heating. (Cannot be factory ordered in the UK so will go for a webasto) Chip / OBD tuning once its out of warranty. I'll post pics when i get it (4-5 months...) Got the nappa leather also (oyster black though), it looks so much better in real life than the dakota, and I am very careful with the car so I don't worry about it damaging more easily (or so they say!) |

I don't think we have the option of leather instrument 4M5 in the US Although this is offered on the 7 series. I would have definitely gone for this as my Jag has it and it gives a very classy look to the interior Great Spec. You guys seem to be able to order every option ala cart. |

i'm sure this is coming stateside soon as well MTechnique, after all it's all coming from the same factory. And fully agree on your jag comment. Such nice interiors. And the sound of the supercharged.. awesome. Btw, you have to see the last top gear UK (series 16 episode 6): the new XJ supercharged in a race against the sun I found a short clip (lots of good stuff removed..) of the race on the interwebs, starting from the 4:50 mark: maybe someone else can find the full clip thx! that's great!
i am so envious Quote:
and yes. also, dakota feels a bit to hard to my taste. i heard from a company that specialises in leather seats and interiors for cars, that for dakota bmw uses to much varnish (not sure this is the right word in english) to cover the leather, making it hard to the touch, and brittle over time. I'd probably have gone for the cloth sport seats rather then dakota, if the budget hadn't allowed the nappa. Last edited by highfive; 03-06-2011 at 01:56 AM.. |

Thx Edwin! 4-5 is what the dealer said. It's a UK deliv. so that adds a few weeks to the usual 3-4 i reckon. Also they only pass on the LHD orders to munich once a month, so in my case that adds a few weeks as well.

some of them come in the packs, so no choice
No, it wont be at the dealers here for another month or maybe a bit more. Currently there's only a display at the munich airport. But i read tons of reviews on it and basically it is a very good car, even the handling. Some reviewers still attempt to conclude which one is better but to me it seems more a matter of taste rather then the merits of the car. Ofcourse, I haven't tested it myself, so cannot say for sure. Just got a call from BMW: It's already built since tuesday and now being prepared to be put on a train in Munich. I'm completly unprepared as I was expecting a mid August delivery. Now i have to rush to get the paperwork etc sorted.
That works out to 7 weeks to production (to order got submitted to munich only on the 20th). Thats probably a record for a UK LHD order. Best news of the day PS: As I have been without a car for several weeks now, I've had the chance to try many rental cars, amongst which 2 E classes and the old A6. In my view the E class is a really nice car. Only negative points: standard seats are not supportive enough, the dash is a bit cheap for this price range, and the filler cap is a flimsy plastic that tends to bend out of place. If they told me i couldnt have the 5 and had to go E i wouldnt have objected. Main highlights: superb ride on the autobahn, very nice stereo, lovely automatic, huge trunk in the T modell. The A6 was nice as interiors go, but unsophisticated in terms of suspension. It was just hard and uncomfortable. It did not filter anything. The A6 is simply not in the same league as the 5 and E. |

Congrats Highfive on your order, will be here before you know it, please post pics!
Edwin's comments actually aided me in my decision to mod my 550 too. I am scheduled to have my local BMW dealer install ACS springs and exhaust next week. I am pretty excited about this!

Forget the "active cruise and Adaptive drive" both worthless IMO.

I can understand the active cruise being person specific and why you personally would think its useless while someone who is a constant cruise driver to think it priceless but why would you not get adaptive drive?

In heavy bumper to bumper traffic traffic that I have to endure each morning, I learned to love it. When I approach congestion, I switch on the ACC and concentrate on more useful stuff than the bloody stop and go (and stop again) routine. Like watching the news on TV or reading my email In my experience the anti collision functionality has been faultless so far.

By the way, today I experienced some serious congestion on the Ring Antwerpen. So Highfive, let me tell you that ACC comes in handy in Belgium too! Really enjoyed the views of that great city while my car did most of the driving.
