Competition Time: Most Over priced "Genuine BMW Accessory"
time for a bit of fun.
ok so I thought my bootliner took the biscuit....85 GBP for basically a piece of rubber shaped like the boot...ok its a perfect fit and does its job so I had to have it but still 85GBP...come on, still i love how "Genuine" accessories from premium marques like BMW are so over priced (BMW are not alone here...audi, jag, merc all the same). so last week after repeated incidents of my 8 month old squinting in the back I relented and bought the "Genuine" Sun blinds...I have got sun protection glass but this alone sometimes isn't enough. with hindsight I should have got the sun blinds as a factory option. anyway...they looked good online: http://www.bmw.com/com/en/owners/acc...eywords=blinds so I bought them. now these are basically just two fold out pieces of black mesh albeit nicely finished, that fit, ok i admit, perfectly in the rear windows and have the advantage of whilst in place still allowing you to raise and lower the glass unlike those stick on suction cup jobs. they are held in place with some neat stick on clips and overall i'm pleased....but.......110 GBP ???? dunno why i'm laughing i paid that for these.....so the competition is on...are there any more "genuine BMW accessories" anyone else has bought that are more overpriced (relative to what you think they cost to manufacture) than these???? or have I won? they do come with a little carry bag though as the fold up when not in use....there that makes it worth it |

Hah, I once bought exactly the same thing for a Ford Focus (you get the tags and bag as well) and paid about GBP20...
Amazing how much that moniker costs... like putting the word "wedding" in front of something. |

OK I win, I got the dog cover for the entire rear seat how much are they in Britain? I think it was 50K yen. right now that's GBP374
ok, I technically didn't buy it, I made my dealer include it in my order for free. |

If limited to: "so the competition is on...are there any more "genuine BMW accessories" anyone else has bought that are more overpriced (relative to what you think they cost to manufacture I think $475 for split fold down rear seat is ridiculous, since many manufacturers do not charge extra for this feature. But if you want to open up the competition to any items offered for the F10 even if not on our current F10, say the word and I will further chime in ..... |

That's a nice bag. You can carry your sandwiches into the office in that bag then everyone will know you drive a BMW. That will make you very cool.

My dad's mid-range Fords in the 80's had split/fold for no extra charge. Roll-on 25 years and we're being charged, over and above the purchase price of an exec car for the privilege of the same! |

The cheaper way of getting a bag with a BMW logo on it is to buy some BMW oil.
It comes also in a little bag, don't know what for. In my opinion the most expensive extra are the individual rear seat reading lights! 400,00 Euro for two lamps. |

Those shades look exactly like the ones I had in my Volvo V70R. Down to the tag (of course mine said Volvo).
I paid almost $250 for the set of 5 shades. |

Not exactly an accessory but how about a BMW 12ml touch up paint / varnish (Titan Silver) from a BMW dealer at £19.80. Even the spare parts manager seemed embarrased at the price.
Including the clear varnish, also 12ml, so a total of 24ml, that's a cost of £0.82 per ml. Now from Halfords a 300ml spray can of Titan Silver for BMW costs £6.29 = £0.02 per ml, or in other words the BMW product is 41 times more expensive per ml. If any product manager at BMW is reading this I would respectfully suggest to you that's really taking the piss! Or perhaps, since BMW have realised that as their current paint is about as resistant to stone chips as blancmange, that it's an essential purchase for most owners and therefore what a tremendous profit can be had with their paint pens? Incidentally the same item purchased a couple of years ago from the same dealer was £8.50 |

Looks like the price of the sun blinds (sides only) has come down as I just managed to get them for £101 including VAT from my local stealer (Berry Chiswick).
I still feel like BMW have bent me over but the stick-on one I have at the moment lets too much sunlight on my 13 month old so I don't really have much choice! |
