Transmission Malfunction..

Empty road, traction off, first gear + throttle, and what sounds like my driveshaft or diff busted. Had it towed to the dealer and will find out more on Monday. Within the first 2000 miles of the car I had the same error occur "Transmission Malfunction" and "Reduced Power etc." but I turned the car off and then on and it was fine. 450lb-ft of torque definitely played a role in what happened but I thought our transmissions could withstand 700lb-fts? Cant believe a $70k car is so fragile after only 25k miles on the clock.

Post your findings ASAP --- curious as I have 576lb-ft of torque going through my tranny.

Good news..I'll be getting my car back tomorrow and the dealer is covering all costs. It was just the axle shaft and they say the differential is spinning just as it should so nothing else was damaged.

That's a bummer. Did your 550 have an other signs before the failure?

I have 550i sport with 1,000 miles on it, and the differential/axle/drive shaft feel like they have too much play. The looseness concerns me...
