Auxiliary heating in U.K
Does anybody have the auxiliary heating for the F10 or F11?
I know it wasn't an option for when we bought our car in Feb, but can it be retro fitted and is it just a software retrofit? It is available on the international BMW site, but it does not appear for the U.K site. Seeing it is winter, I would like to have it installed if I can. |

I'm not sure you can have an auxiliary fitted, as well as the PTC elements. Certainly won't be any hardware in a UK model. HighlandPete PS: What model have you got? I'm assuming you have a diesel, to want the traditional auxiliary heater. BTW, the electric heater is viewed as an auxiliary heater. Last edited by HighlandPete; 11-27-2011 at 03:00 PM.. Thanks for the reply. Sorry, you will have to forgive me. What's a Ptc heater? I guess I just want the car to heat up quickly in the cold mornings, shame I can't get it for my car.

So it is doing what a diesel fired heater would be doing, but only once you start up. We get much faster warm up of the HVAC system, than we would on engine heat waste alone. HighlandPete |

The auxiliary heating that I am looking for is like the indirect ventilation. If you are leaving in the morning at 7am, you can set the timer for 6.30am and it heats the car up to get rid of the frost or snow. I guess the opposite to indirect ventilation, which cools the car down in hot weather.

I agree that this would be a very welcome addition on cold winter mornings, but, on the assumption that this is an electrical heater, I'd be concerned about battery issues as a result of it operating without the engine running. |

We have this as an option in Norway, option code 536. Naturally it is more marked for it here in the cold North. This one use Gasolin /Diesel for the heating, but it also needs a bit electricity for running fan's to spread the heat.
I think the heater is from Webasto (http://www.parkingheater.co.uk/) even when ordered with the car, so if you get this retrofitted from them you should get the OEM solution with integration with iDrive, the cars battery power management and so on. |

BMW's marketing information claims in doesn't warm the engine at all anymore, just the coupe.
The sales staff tells me it does make the engine warm as well. |

I was told by the dealer it is simply not available for the UK and Ireland, with no explanations as to why, love to know the reasons for not having this when not only it's an option in other places but also part of Accassories.
