Is that different from the one in the sticky here?

I just got a 2013 535i so I was interested in the spec sheet on pages 26 and 27. The engine output is unchanged, as expected, but the new car is a little lighter and a little quicker. 0-100 kph with the automatic drops from 5.9 sec to 5.7.
The 550 is a lot quicker. |

I wonder how they supposedly knocked weight off of the 2014's? Sounds oddly impossible considering the changes we know. 550i will obviously be faster due to a solid increase in power.

One is a US price list, the other is a complete overview of all the changes that LCI introduces and a fairly exhaustive technical data sheet for each model. Didn't you open the attachment? |

Yes. It was already in my downloads folder too and I recognized it from a couple weeks ago. But it's not in the sticky I referenced. Must have been a different forum. My bad.
Regardless, either one of the 2014 sticky posts would be a great place for it so it stays visible over time. |

If the new car is quicker I'm guessing it's the transmission. I didn't check the gear ratios but the specs are there. |

Thanks for checking on that. So I'm wondering what the difference in time would be?
My assumption/theory is that BMW provided too large a "safety net" of high-time for the 535i (kind of how they underrate the HP/TQ output of it, yet in that case it helps lower insurance costs), so without any changes they can get away with lowering the time down to a closer real-world accuracy and still have enough of a "safety net" in terms of false-advertising claims (manufacturers always understate their 0-60 performance figures). Of course, different tires, or most likely the *New Launch Control* could very well be the difference right there. I can't fathom the facelift shedding one pound under the pre-facelift so that can't be it.

Have posted a reply here: http://f10.5post.com/forums/showthre...0#post14150260 If the mods want to include the info in the original post that would probably be beneficial. |

I don't think BMW is playing games for insurance purposes. I think they have a very conservative testing protocol so that customers won't be disappointed when they try to duplicate factory performance numbers. It's called "managing expectations."
Different transmission programming might shave a couple of tenths. The weight numbers seem to be lower compared with euro specs listed for 2013 cars but who knows. There's different industry standards for measuring weight just like there are for engine output. It's the same car with very minor changes. |
