Drive Train Malfunction

Anyone else ever have this problem. I had it continuously with my 2011 550 and soon after returned it for my current 2013 550. Of course now it's happening to this car as well.

Any insight on what the dealership did to fix it would be great.

Thanks.

I get the error sometimes when I accelerate. Took it in and the dealer couldn't find anything. Opened the hood myself, and found some damage to wires from a marder. Not sure if that's the cause or not. Taking it in on Monday and they want it for two days. MTF.

When do you get the error? Mine doesn't happen very often, but it is usually when I'm accelerating up hill.

A drivetrain malfunction can be hundreds of different things. There is no 1 fix. Bring it to the dealer

Ya mine is usually when accelerating and is not very often. I realize it can be a lot of different things, but I more wanted to see if anyone else experienced the same thing and if so how they fixed it. It just sucks that it's happened with both of my cars.

Have you found it to be an issue at all in the long run? Sounds like you've been dealing with it for a while.

I don't think I can put up with it. I cruise on the autobahn at 140+. Don't want anything going wrong. If they can't find the fix, not sure what my options will be.

I had that issue and after they changed the injectors and spark plugs it went away. I had the car for 1yr. Happened at slow speeds like when beginning to move.

When the error comes on nothing happens. Acceleration is just slowed as a result of the turbo making less boost etc. You turn the car on and off and it goes back to normal. If the error message occurs while you are cruising at 140+, safety is not affected in any way whatsoever although i would recommend pulling over and turning the car off and on.

They changed all that crap on my 2011 and it still came back, that's when I returned it. I think that's the next step on this one, hoping it works this time.

Lee, it did happen to me one time in my old car on the highway, I went to accelerate and just nothing happened, luckily I was near my exit and just turned it off when I got off but it wasn't a huge deal, just freaked me out a bit.

Freaks me out as well. Annoying -- it's always in the back of my mind.

Will let y'all know the outcome after I take it in on Mon.

I will post results as well, but mine won't go in until March 22 because I'm sick of having crappy loaners so I'm waiting until I go out of town.

it's been happening to me on and off. The past three days it's happen, once when back up, this morning as soon as i started my car and the other day i was driving my daughter to school, had to stop and turn the engine on and off..... It seems to be happening more often now...

It seems to be rather common, the fact that BMW hasn't figured this out yet is pretty ridiculous.

Took it in this morning and got a call this afternoon. Was told it is a vacuum hose problem. They are ordering the package and will hopefully install it tomorrow. MTF.

Picked it up this morning. They replaced the vacuum hose package (or something to that effect). Drove it a couple hundred miles to Stuttgart and back, and haven't had any issues (yet). Fingers crossed.

Interesting. Please let us know if it reoccurs and I'll do the same.
