Auxiliary heating
Any of you folks in UK or Ireland managed to have this installed, with my ex e60 I was told the option is not available for the Ireland & UK, I be checking to see if this also applies for the F10.
Descrition as per bmw.com For a warm interior before you start a winter's journey. In addition, the engine is protected during start up because the cooling circuit is already pre-heated. Fuel consumption is also reduced. Activated through the Control Display and remote control, which can also operate the stationary ventilation. |

Hi there - I really wanted it my my F10 too, but was told by BMW that the option was only available on left-hand drive cars. I registered with BMW UK to have it as an option for UK cars - apparently if enough people register then BMW consider including it as an option

I live in Sweden and have a 530d xDrive MY 2012 with factory installed auxiliary heating. However the heater does not heat the engine, just the cabin. It is a great option though, 30 minutes is enough to get the cabin comfortable with an outside temp of -5 degr. Celsius. Hopefully you will get this option in the UK & Ireland as well. It is expensive (as most of BMW:s options) but very nice to have in a country with 4-5 months of winter weather!

Ive been experimenting with mine since the temps have started to drop over the last three weeks or so (a few times when its been under 3 degrees). The only time I can get the PTC to work is when the car is first started and I select window demist to get rid of frost, after a minute or so slightly warmer air is blown at the screen and side window vents, enough to melt the ice but not what I would call warm. Once the front window demist is deselected I get no warm air until the engine oil temp is about 50-60 degrees then the normal heat comes out form the vents and gets hotter as the oil temp reaches 100 degrees. Ive come to the conclusion that its just to aid demisting while the engine warms up.

Not for me, I am out very early in the morning and defrosting my windscreen is just too slow, I end up using some warm water to speed up the process, I know this can damage windscreen hence from this week I started using the BMW windscreen & front side window cover instead, if no good I refer to my last option window de-icer, not sure the long time effect on glass if any.

Coming from a Volvo where it is standard I saw it as a must on my F11. I use it every day when it is below 5 degrees celsius. When activated from remote, which goes over radio btw, it will run for 30 minutes. When its arround -5 C its enough to activate it 10 minutes before leaving, voila, all windows are defrosted and car is warm. I am working as a IT consultant, so every minute that i can spend at customers is ££. Therefore I earned the cost quite quickly not having to spend 10 minutes every morning removing ice.
Yesterday we had -18 C, and after 30 minutes completely warm car. |
