Thanks for the update. Have they announced which powertrains will be available with a manual? I also assume they'll all come with chrome/polished wheels, which is as stupid as BMW's insistence on RFT tires.

I think only the turbo 4 cylinder gets the optional 6-speed manual. I could be mistaken though.

That's what I've heard, which makes a certain amount of sense, as it's probably the sportiest of the three engine options, I've just heard that the available options if you get the manual are severely limited. Ultimately, I think the launch version of this car will be relatively bland, but the rumored V model and possible wagon version might make me reconsider it in a few years.

Have you looked at the price of a 335 vs a 528 or a 550 vs a 740?

Not exactly good pricing. Turbo 4 ATS cost more than turbo 4 328i. (possible ATS has more standard options)

Anyways all I want to know is will there be a ATS-V and will it have a big supercharged V8?

335 starts at $42k and the 528 starts at $47k, difference though is the 335 has a 300hp I6 and the 528 has a 240hp turbo 4, while the mid-level ATS with 270hp turbo4 is the same price as the CTS with 270hp V6.

Well the 550 starts at $62k and the 740 starts at $71k so big difference there.

Rumors are saying that the ATS-V will either be a twin turbo v6 or a supercharged v8 with around 470hp.

Umm yeah I did. There is a 4k difference between the 335i and 528i. And a 9k difference between the 550i and 740i.

So I guess the better question is have you?

I hope it is a supercharged V8. Make the next gen M3 under powered before it even hits the market.

They make some very nice and very fast cars. I would drive a CTS-V coupe all day, everyday.

Seriously, using that logic, the 5GT and X6 should have killed any brand goodwill BMW had. The M5 plays music instead of having an actual good exhaust note. Non M cars lack limited slip diffs. F30's require spark plug changes every other oil change (originally listed as every). The list is long, but just as M cars provide a certain amount of credibility to BMW, the V cars correct a lot of what Cadillac does wrong, but if you just look at the last five years, I'd say that Cadillac is more impressive than BMW and I'm waiting to actually be able to drive an ATS before buying an F30/F31.

Five years ago if you told me I'd delay a car buying decision based on what Cadillac was doing, I would have had a hard time believing it. Of course if you'd told me that Subaru and Toyota were teamed up building a rwd sports car with an engine that had both DI and port injection to correct the shortcoming of all DI-only engines, I wouldn't have believed that either.

Err...a little too expensive, no? I was expecting $31k? Props to Cadillac and coming out point blank, "We're here to dethrone the BMW 3-Series" but I don't think charging BMW prices is going to work too well for them. Cadillac might beat the 3-Series is standard equipment but I don't think that's going to be that big of a factor because everyone who buys a 3-Series (prior to the F30) knows it lacks standard equipment vs. it's competitors and still purchases one anyway.

I really want the ATS to be put up there with the 3-Series but the pricing, I think, is going to hurt them...

the f30 328i and turbo 4 ats should be an interesting matchup but when it comes to the 335i vs v6 ats, the 335i with a few upgrades (not assuming bmw will give the 335i a power bump to 320hp) should toast the ats.

Just curious, but what percentage of 335i's would you guess are tuned? My guess is about 1-2%. I'd guess an ATS with an LS motor swap would walk all over a tuned 335i, but there will probably be seven folks that go for that.

I get that you're really just saying that the turbo motor in the 335i provides easier tuning than the n/a motor in the ATS, but given that the Camaro V6 uses the same motor and has a few tuning options already, I don't think it's a given that a tuned 335i will be any quicker than a tuned ATS, especially on a track, where the limited slip on the ATS should help greatly. Of course we're talking about the fringe of near luxury sedan owners; stock for stock, this should be an interesting comparison.

Motor swaps are another different story. If you swap the 335i engine for a 4.4l twin turbo m5/m6 engine will that LS motor walk all over the 335i, no. Other than a motor swap I'm pretty sure a fbo + meth 335i will destoy the tuned n/a ATS. Yes, it will be great competition between the two stock for stock, but the ATS has a lot of proving that it lives up to being better than the 3 series which sounds like Cadillac's main focal point.

Agreed, but you can buy an LS3 for about the price of one cylinder head of the S63nu, and just factoring in the cost of adding an LSD to an F30 plus a tune and the ATS with an LS doesn't seem that expensive.

The lack of manual transmission availability in the ATS, and the as yet confirmed weight mean that it's likely to miss the F30 in most enthusiasts picks, but hopefully they'll get the ATS-V right.

I agree. In some circles, the ATS will likely be favoured over the IS, A4 and C-Class but I think the majority will still have the 3-Series on top in the class.

Seriously, that is like 1% of the cars market share.

I'm more excited about the new IS to be honest. The new GS350 is getting great reviews and is even being picked over the 535i and Lexus seems intent going a sportier route in the future. Now they just need to release an actual coupe for the IS line and they'd be knocking down Benzes, BMWs and Audis door.
