HUD install by dealer...
When I snagged my f10 it was just sittin at the dealership and did not have HUD. Anyone with experience having this put in after the fact? Would the entire top portion of the dash need to be replaced? Haven\'t contacted my dealer about this yet; but my guess is that it\'s cost prohibitive?

HUD cannot be retrofitted at a price point that would make it worthwhile.
The dash does need to be replaced. That alone would cost thousands. The windshield would have to be replaced as well. We are $4-$8k into this and we have not even gotten to labor, hardware/software, or programming. If you want it, get a car with it. I had HUD on my 645 and it was OK. With my F10, it is not really needed with the new dash cluster. Plus I can use polarized glasses without issue. Others will insist HUD is needed, they are just geekin' out.

Impossible? No…Feasible..Not a chance...
While this is probably not "impossible" i'd have to guess it's right next to it:
HUD requires a different windshield as it's part of the HUD system, and new top part of your dashboard, the wiring and the black panel display instrument cluster…(probably a different wiring harness for all of this as well? So yes, cost wise you'd be toast… You need to either a) purchase/trade up for a car with one or b) wean yourself off the idea, or you'll drive yourself mad with "I must have this feature!" HUD is the one toy I wasn't willing to live without, so i ordered new to get it. I don't use it everyday, but i find it great for doing road trips and getting in/out of new places…but mostly, it adds a bit of Knight Rider-esque into the car for those of us who like such things. On a related note, it would be kind of nice to see a list of things you can/cannot reasonable retrofit to an F10…but i'm thinking on cost alone, HUD is well out. |

I don't even need to wean myself off the idea; not a big deal at all. I just like doing things to my car. Appreciate the responses and both are answers I expected. The car purchase was somewhat impulsive so I go from there. Coilovers, wheels were first and now I guess i'll do some body mods. Was trying to fit some tech mods in somewhere.

Now this is funny. You motorheads can modify your bimmers to the nth degree, but when it comes to a little projector attached to the speedo you are stumped?
This sounds like a fun project and the trick would be to try to pull it off for less than 4k. Quote:

I just retrofitted HUD today on a F10, it took 7 hours+time for windscreen replacement.
Parts needed: HUD SA-610 (2 wirings to radio + 2 wirings to fusebox) Switch (3 wirings to be connected) Cluster (combi) SA-6WA Dashboard Windscreen+rainsensor You can use a normal windscreen to save money, but signal is stronger on the right one. __________________________________________________ _______________ www.youtube.com/bmwonlinetv |

No one did a full HUD retrofit?
I have to change my windshild, it was broken by a rock, and I'm thinking to change it with one designed for HUD, and then to retrofit HUD too. Can someone help me with some codes for wireing and everything else that I need? Thank you. My car is an F30 04.2012. I allready retrofit an 6WA cluster from an F10 with HUD. |

Or you could just buy the aftermarket unit from Garmin/BMW - now being fitted at dealers...
http://www.bmw.co.uk/en_GB/topics/su...yId=10202.html Has its own Nav, so a bonus for those who don't have Nav as standard or haven't updated the maps. |
