"Flat Tire Warning" vs. Tire Pressure Monitoring

I understand that the F10 comes from the factory with run-flat tires in most markets. Certainly the USA and Canada.

Cars in the USA and certain other jurisdictions have a "direct" Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), which includes sensors in each wheel that allow a direct reading of tire pressure on the iDrive screen.

Certain countries (I suspect Canada being one) have a "Flat Tire Warning" (FTW) system that provides a warning only when the tire has little or no pressure (~0 psi) and 'deforms' in a way that is detectable by the ABS system, which is reported through iDrive.

I have two questions:

1) Is the above description correct?, and
2) Would a Canadian F10 be equipped with a detector that would 'read' the signals if the USA-style sensors were installed?

Tire Rack prompts a question regarding the sensors, but no one seems to know whether or not a Canadian car is compatible with the US-style sensors.

Can someone enlighten me, please.
