Would you trade 550i for 650i
I have a 2011 F-10 550i and love it, but I had seen a 2012 650i with only 4,000 miles on it, I never really cared for the coupe but had seen this mineral white one at the dealership almost loaded for $72,000. and it really looked good. I figure the difference in trade would only be like 15 grand, but really not sure about if I'll love it as much as my 550i. Any opinions on which is nicer, sportier, or just a better car? I'll post pics below.

Have you driven the car?! I personally dislike the 6 series seats. They are just not even close to as comfy as the f10 (assumung you have multi contour seats).
The car is super fun to drive, but I wouldn't say it is any more fun than a 550i. Plus if you sprung for 650 might as well find a used 2013 because those have higher hp and torque. Also how many miles on your 550i? 72k-15k= 57k... The dealer wont give you 57k for your car. Not a chance. Waaayyy less Last edited by tougedrifted; 05-30-2013 at 11:48 PM.. |

Thought about getting a 650i and drove those in comparison to my 550i also. 640i which I actually tested was a sport drive and definitely fun tho...also drove the 640i GC too as a 4 door option. Interior is really nice. However I do agree that without the M Sport package the car looks kinda blah. I'd say drive em both and compare with the GC too as it may surprise you and you may decide you like the 4 door version. In the end tho it was the prices of the 6 series that held me back and the fact I wanted something a little less WOW and more low key. The f10 550i is nice, taught, sporty, and can be upgraded or purchased with as much performance as your heart desires..but it doesn't scream SPORT, FAST, and look at me which what I kinda wanted in my daily driver this time.
But hey there's nothing wrong with the 650i...just be advised you won't likely get anywhere near that $15k delta/difference between the cost of the 650i and the 550i trade price you mentioned unless you sell it on your own. Now if $$ is no option then of course the dealer will sell you whatever is on their lots! LOL GL

Sold my 550i and got into 650i GC and could not have been happier! My wallet begs to differ, though....

I would also say the same thing about f01/f02. The 650 is a vertical superstar. Whatever strength it gains vertically, it loses equally horizontally. If the 550 were a nice pair of designer jeans, the 650 is a pair of striped suit pants that only matches a single striped jacket. In other words, the 650's lack of four doors is going to sting you on those occasions one equipped with four door takes for granted. Sure, the 650 is a sweet ride, but it is the kind of car that belongs in your stable of several super beasts. You would grow annoyed and tired of wearing the same snazzy striped suit pants every day---even though they make you look dapper. The same goes with a 650. It's not a daily driver. It's got pizazz and it screams "I am successful." But, if you screamed "I am successful" every day, even your own mother would tell you to shut up at some point. The 550 states that you are smart, care about the environment, and you appreciate the finer things in technical design. The 550 does not scream these things and that makes it the better car to be used accross the board. |

F10 M Sport > 6 Series with no M Sport.
IMO it comes down to Sedan VS Coupe. I think the F10 is the nicest Sedan on the market, and the 6er perhaps the nicest Coupe. It looks like a 2 Door F10. Design quality I think is equal between the two with of course the 6er being a lot sportier and less focused on practicality, more focused on style. As for drive, I've heard people complain that the 6ers ride rougher and harsher than the 5-Series (assuming with that comes extra sportiness). I like the seating position of the F10 more, being that I'm tall.

The 650 is not a comfortable car to drive everyday. i'd look into a Euro delivery 2014 550i if I were you. It has the updated engine and interior.

I went through the same hard decision. Our dealer had a brand new 2012 non-MSport fully loaded AW 650i wiht LED for $72k (it was a demo). It's much roomier up front, compared to the 5. However, not have 4 doors would haunt me. So I went with a 750Li instead.

In this regard, I think BMW priced the GC exactly right. They do not want the F06/F12/F13 to be viewed as value. BMW wanted the GC to be rare compared to the F10 and from this thread, BMW's pricing strategy is working.......
BMW has pretty much pushed the 5-series into the "value" segment from a pricing point. Case in point, the top end 3-series is quite a bit more expensive than entry level F10s now...... Talking about globally, not just the usa....

Once you look at the real numbers you will see that keeping the 550i makes sense. |

Unfortunately one of the downsides is that the V8 models will depreciate especially rapidly. At some point in time (future when F10's are "old"), a 528i or 535i can or will be typically worth more than a 550i, as is typically the case with older, high mileage Used Luxury Cars.

I was in somewhat similar predicament a month ago. My work situation changed recently and I no longer drive to the office every day (NYC). I drive my car only on the weekends now. I no longer care about gas mileage as much, so I figured I could get a bigger engine. Got a very sweet offer on the 2013 550xi, which would still require ~6k upfront. Luckily, my significant other was able to convince me to stay with the 528. Sure the new toy would be nice but at some point it just stops making sense. As a general comment to the thread, not specifically to your posts. The 6 series in NYC is just another car, it blends in with the crowd just as good as any CLS or A7. Perhaps its different elsewhere in US....
