Installed a BlackVue camera system today.

I finally decided to get a camera system installed and went down to the car electronics store today and picked out a BlackVue.... seeing how I wanted a camera that was compact but also HD, it seemed like the best one to get. Here are a few pics of my install today...

Car sitting in the installation garage

"Hiding the wires" in progress....

Picture of it from the driver's position where it's invisible:

Visible only if I lean forward to the left:

From the outside:

Comes with a mini-SD card, card USB reader, cables, etc.

Here in Taiwan, almost every car has one. Just a precaution in case of an accident, etc.

Somehow Photobucket's made the pics pretty small. I'll edit them tomorrow.

@BigMikeTwn:
Does it record in a continuous loop, or do you have to turn it off and on and control it? I was thinking of getting one of these cause the drivers around here are so fucking bad, distracted, drunk, and generally clueless.

This is pretty cool. I would absolutely love one of these to document my DC commutes. The disregard for basic driving skills is pretty blatant. I suspect I could make an entire web site out of the stuff I'd capture.

Or in case someone try to scam you by backing into you.

The BlackVue is a nice dashboard cam, some people are having problems with the unit overheating, supposedly firmware related. Can the OP share how much you paid in Taiwan? Thanks.

I paid NT$10,000 for it including installation (wiring all invisible).

That's like US$330. It's cheaper if I just bought it online and installed it myself but having it done by this shop also comes with a warranty and if I have any problems with it I can just drive in and have them fix it. Not to mention not having to figure out how to wire it up.

The power cable is connected directly to the panel in the back on the glove compartment and nothing shows except for the connector .

It records in a loop. I've check the video on my computer and it even shows the speed, etc. (GPS info also but I didn't notice it).

Exactly! I would love to have gotten a super small camera lens that I could place right behind the rearview mirror. Seems the market's full of big gadgets that people love to clutter up their dashboard.... not my thing....

It has different settings - it can record continuously in a loop, or when it senses motion/shock, etc. All adjustable in software. It's a pretty good camera overall - not a no-name Chinese crap, but a Korean-made product, with easy to use software and user-upgradeable firmware. If you're interested - you can read more on official webpage, they have English version too (though with not-so-good translation):
http://www.blackvue.co.kr/en/main/main.asp
It is available for sale here in USA from numerous Korean sellers on eBay.

The only bummer for me, a Mac user, is that all the software is PC and Android....

Me too, bummer, I'm definitely getting a dash cam, but I need it to work with a Mac.

I just discovered you can use your iphone for this. This may be the least painful way to go...
