Are auto folding mirrors a feature?

So, I was out of town for a week and half - and the 550 was parked off in my parking garage - no key were accessible to anyone in this period. When I got back the mirrors were folded up - and I know I never would have done this before I left - could the mirrors have auto-folded based on time?

No I don't believe so. My F10 has been garages nearly a month without side mirrors folding.

If someone presses on them, I think they'll collapse/fold up. I've never had the nerve to try this in any of my cars with power retracting mirrors.

I concur. This seems like the most logical explanation.

I push on mine pretty heavily when waxing the car and I'd say it'd take one heck of a push to make them fold (if they do)... Any chance that you pressed on the FOB lock key about 3 seconds when you were leaving - at least in the EU models that would make the mirrors to auto fold? If another vehicle hit 'em I'd think there would be some visual residue ;-)

I was cleaning cars on the driveway today, had unlocked mine to clean interior glass and door shuts but had not started engine, after closing doors I didn't lock it again but went to to clean the wife's car. After some time, maybe an hour or more I went back to get something from mine, and the doors had locked and the mirrors had folded in. I'm thinking maybe there's a feature that if you unlock but don't start the car then close up without the key in the car/vicinity, then after a set time it automatically locks and this auto lock includes folding the mirrors. Can't explain this any other way.

Did you possibly do something similar when you left your car?

Doesn't seem to work on US spec cars.

I just went down to my garage, folded the mirrors out, pressed the fob for about 10 seconds. The car locked, but didn't do anything beyond that.

I wish we had the ability to fold them remotely, but it doesn't appear to work that way here.

Yeah, I read somewhere that it doesn't work on US-spec cars, but someone said a dealer can enable it.

My LS 460 has this feature , I'm glad it at least has power mirrors , don't know why they just don't add auto fold with locking feature? The only thing I know works is holding the unlock for about 5 secs all the windows open but you can't close them
