JB4 Reliability
Hi Guys,
Just purchased a 550i and I'm thinking about getting a JB4. How reliable have your cars been? I understand there are two stages. Are there any known/common issues after installing the modules? |

Cool, thanks. I had a tuned Audi and I've never had any issues. I know the N63 are not considered very reliable, or at least without the CCP, so I'm wondering if adding a tune/piggy back would cause any issues in the long run.

Ive had stage 1 for about 35k miles / 2 years and no issues really, I drive it fairly hard.
I will say this tho, without the tune the car is very smooth and luxury feeling, but with the tune it gets a bit rough.

Good, but definitely a beta. There's a couple of things are that annoying. With the temps outside lately my IATs are too high during the day so it sets the boost target on the low side (15-16 psi). At night, I'm seeing 19psi targets and I overboost hitting 21psi and throttle is cut. It's annoying to have the car be much faster at night but I guess that's the nature of piggybacks. Besides this minor annoyance it has been reliable and definitely much more power.

Alright, so I caved in and installed it this morning. The additional power is worth every penny! What I like is how smooth the power delivery is, it feels like a stock car with more power - very natural. So far I've only ran Map 2.
A couple of things I noticed: 1. The engine seems to have woken up! Now I can actually hear the V8 under the hood. Very nice! 2. There seems to be a ticking (diesel like) sound. Maybe this was there before, just not as noticeable? You can usually hear it in the lower revs when you just barely step on the gas. Is this normal? |
