Based on the picture above, there are also reflection from the center speaker grille. This wont annoyed driver because they are not right in front of the driver.

The HUD reflection, once again, force the driver to look "through" the frame like reflection as picture. Not looking at them, but through them. Adjusting seat position wont help to shift the reflection out of driver's line of sight.

It is the same thing as if we are watching television, place on top of a table. Right in the middle of the table (in front of the tv), there is a round/square crystal clear vase. I would have find hard to believe nobody cares not try to move it.

Anyway, seems some folks did not annoyed by this, and apparently some do. For some that do (like me), I have given one possible solution on the other thread started by rka, http://f10.5post.com/forums/showthre...=432066&page=2

When you step on the throttle to move off it hesitates before it engages 1st gear and moves. I encountered this once at a roundabout on a test drive and it's not good to say the least - especially when you have a car on the roundabout coming quickly at you.

I found the F10 to be a much better car. But that's just my opinion We all have different tastes.
Seems like people also reporting similar problem on F10, http://f10.5post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=417714

Since you are a long term HUDer, what do you like about the HUD? What do you think it gives you over just looking at the dials/nav screen.

Also - if you set the speed unit/milage unit on the on board computer between miles and kilometers, does the speed read out on the HUD also change between miles and kilometers?

In addition to dashboard reflections in the F10, has anyone noticed a faint line
or very slight crease (at first I thought it was a reflection) to the right
of the speaker on top of the dash? If you run your hand across it, you can
definitely feel a slight rise in the dash material. I have noticed it on several
posted dashboard pics. I'm not sure why it is there--perhaps a result of the
air bag housing? At times it is less noticeable, depending on the intensity of
the light hitting the top of the dash.

Same issue with my Carbon Black/Black 550i. I have never experienced a dashboard reflection like this with any previous vehicle, BMW or not. My car is equipped with a HUD, which causes the "letterbox" reflection effect that others on this thread have discussed. It is strange at the level of variability in responses. For me, I experience an annoying reflection at any time when the sun is above the horizon--sunny, rainy, overcast. In fact, it is the worst during overcast/rainy days because I'm not wearing the BMW-recommended polarized sunglasses.

I have heard stories about documented "design flaws" when lightly colored dashboards produce unacceptable reflections, but never on a BMW with a black dashboard. I hate to think that a dashmat is the only solution for this, especially when the HUD box is involved. Help BMW!

Clearly all you reflectionaphobes live in countries that are far too sunny, stop trying to make us uk folk jealous with all your talk of sun glasses and the like.

Move to the uk where its dull and raining most of the time. Problem solved.

On a more constructive note, I've ha windscreen reflections on both my E92 and E60s. Can't really say it's any worse in real world driving in the f11. Bit like having a chip in your windscreen glass for first few days your vision focuses in that sport alone, after a while you focus back on road and hardly ever notice it. At least thats what i find. As for the
panel damage no idea what you are talking about not seeing that on my car. Can you post pics?

With this major issue in the F10 I would certainly go for the Mercedes E-class.

We have both in our garage (see signature for exact models) so feel free to PM me with specific questions. I love both of them, bit for very different reasons.

My wife drives the E350 wagon and I drive the 550i, but we do switch back and forth quite a bit as we both love both cars.

I haven't noticed this here, and we get plenty of sun. I was warned by CA that HUD device can make reflections more noticeable, but without HUD it wasn't an issue. I normally use polarized sunglasses which remove this type of glare.

However, that photo looks really bad and not typical. It almost looks like someone used Armor All on the dash and made it supper shiny, and/or the inside of the windshield needs a good cleaning. After a few months, new cars will start to form a haze (from air contaminants) on the inside windshield glass that reflects objects much stronger. If somebody smoked in the car, it come son fast.

I recently scrubbed my windshield down with rubbing alcohol inside and out - it makes a big difference in clarity and reflections. That coupled with a dull or satin finish dash cleaner I think will minimize these reflections if you don't want to wear polarized sunglasses.

I do agree - dash shouldn't have creases in it to begin. However, it's quite hard to find flaws in the car overall.

Hey guys, while on the topic of nick picking I have found the greatest flaw of them all.
Have you all noticed that when you fart the leather seats seem to trap the fart in place and thus the stinch lingers a little longer?

Wonder if the pals with ventilated seats have the same issue. Writing a letter right now to BMWNA about this fart trapping issue cause by the leather on the seats. We deserve some answers!!

Was trying to say was out in Q5, it's fitted with bang & olufsen hifi upgrade one thing this gives is 3 x loudspeaker housings across dash, and guess what all reflect on windscreen at varying angles/sun direction. This windscreen reflection issue is just something that any car with dash mounted fixtures will have to some degree. Glass is reflective, some dashboards reflect light nothing new not bmws fault and not really a reason to not buy a car. Still just IMHO everyone has to make own choice.

Some things that bother me and would change if I could.

1. Car always starts wth AC fan always on.
2. Car always starts with rain sensor and auto highbeams off.
3. Car always starts with Transmission mode in normal.
4. No spare tire
5. I have HUD and I do notice a bad reflection at times, damn sunny Florida.
6. No volume display for the radio.
7. Must pull door handle twice to open door when locked.
8. I have not found a decent cargo net for the trunk.

Now these are nitpicky things and I do enjoy my 5 thoroughly.

This one isn't really fair. At least the Bimmer unlocks the door for you on the first try. Most cars would require you to find the unlock button, hit it, then go back to the door handle and try again.

My previous car - a Chrylser 300C and my wife's Acura TL does not require to unlock the car before opening the door. YMMV

Wow, you guys woke up a 'dead' thread

The reflection problem is no where near the infamous 'steering issues'.
