Stock 535i stock steering wheel

I have been buying 5 series for several years going back to the first 5 series, most recently an E60. I did not buy the sport package for my new F10 because I live in Chicago and didn't want 19" wheels. I also did not like the black trim. I did buy the multicontour sets.

I drove the F10 series more than once before I bought the car but some had the sport option and some did not. I didn't really notice how thin the rim on the steering wheel rim was on the standard 535i until after I bought the car. My standard E60 steering wheel was thicker.

I would be willing to buy the sport wheel as a part (approx $1000) but it looks like the airbag would also need to be changed, making the cost over $2000. I thought about buying a leather cover to go around the standard leather steering wheel but the only ones I have seen are the Wheelskins brand and I am sure I am happy with the results. Plus it would diminish the heating benefit of my existing heated steering wheel. I could live with that.

I have talked to a few owners of F10s who said they have gotten use to the standard steering wheel and are happy. Maybe I will also.

Any thoughts, suggestions, ideas.

Hey there, I couldn't bear the thin stock wheel, I had an e60 then e92 and the stock steering wheel on the new f10 is ridiculously skinnier when compared to those cars. So much so I am glad I got the sport package on my f10. If you buy as a part your spending close to what the MSRP of the f10 sport package is. But I feel your pain nonetheless... Good luck!

I believe if you buy the sport automatic transmission ($500), you get, paddle shifters & fatter steering wheel.

I already have the car.

I couldn't order the sport auto trans as a separate option. It automatically adds the sport package.

In Europe you can buy the sport steering wheel without having to add the sport package.
