Difference between IAS and AS
Test drove the f10 535i on Wednesday loved it bar 4 things (addition of idrive buttons, addition of engine temp gauge, large 'key' fob and lack of Active Steering (AS)) and in reality only one thing really annoyed me (lack of AS). The temp gauge and buttons is just back to past and large fob is a form factor thing.
The dealer did not have an Integrated Active Steering (IAS) optioned car for me to test drive (yet), so was driving std power steering model. I really disliked it (when compared to my e60 AS) imprecise and requiring large movements of the steering wheel in city driving. What is the difference between IAS on f10 and AS on e60? Does IAS also use the electric motor driven speed dependent variable ratio gear steering? The dealer confused me with his description of IAS as std steering with the addition of back wheels turning to aide steering. |

Your dealer is correct. IAS is essentially 4-wheel steering. Whether you will like it is a matter of personal perference.......
