bmw driving event today
anyone drive the new 5 at the bmw driving event yet ? I drove the 550 and 550GT
So the car had about 300miles on it (brand new, not a beat down demo yet) - right - So I pull out of the dealership. Give it a little gas to get up an incline out to the road - and on the cool heads up display - I get an "engine malfunction, reduced power" warning. now the car is actually shuddering, and definitely reduced power - so I get it down the street to the next parking lot - stop the car - and turn it off - then restart - and all is fine again (guess it just needed a reboot) I did love the comfort / sport switch, the ride is great, smooth but still handles ( it didn't get to really push it as the local police had already figured out the event was going on ) One thing I didn't like about this event was that there were not a many models as in 2008 - then they had 335s, and M3 and Z4s this time just 328s, the new 5s and X5s the E350 they had to compare to the 5 was also a smooth ride (not much for handling) |

Keep in mind that any manufacturer sponsored ride & drive event will be orchestrated in such a way to show their product in a most favourable way. Offering an E350 as a comparison to a BMW 550 is one such way to influence the impressions of test drivers. Too bad you didn't get a chance to drive an E550 Sport to compare with the 550.

dereks - they had a 535i to compare w/ the E350 - I just didn't get to drive the 535i
to be honest I don't know enough about the E350 to really know if it was a fair comparo to at least the 535i this event was not like the one I did in 2008 - then you could drive most models from BMW (if you could wait long enough on a list) hey dereks - I see you have a 335d - I wish they had one to drive at the event - I did get to drive an X5 diesel - I was really impressed with the torque and - I bet most wouldn't even realize it was a diesel (at least from the sound) - had a lot of fun in 08 driving the new M3 and 135, 335s pcbrew - the event was in fortworth, dallas (wed) and Plano on thursday - next they were headed to Temple and then I think next week Austin |
