2010 BMW 5 Series to receive V8TT from X6

Over the past several months, spy photographers have managed to capture plenty of images of the upcoming 2010 BMW 5-series. While the shots have given us an overall idea of what to expect from the next-generation 5-series — both inside and out — we didn't exactly know what would be under the hood of the new sedan. But thanks to a new report, we have a little more info.

When the new 5-series finally bows — likely in 2010 — it will be available with the same twin-turbo V8 found in the X6, says BMWBlog.com. Just as in X6-guise, the twin-turbo V8 will make about 400 horsepower in the 5-series — which would put it in the same neighborhood as BMW's E39 M5.

It is also believed that the base 5-series will come equipped with the same twin-turbo six found in the BMW 335i and 135i.

Design of the sixth generation 5-series — codenamed F10 — is being overseen by BMW’s head designer, Adrian van Hooydonk. Unfortunately, the heavy camouflage of this test car hides most of the car's details.

The next-generation 5-series is expected to feature an eight-speed automatic transmission with an all-wheel drive option being available. A range of engines will be available in the 5-series and wagon and M5 versions will follow about a year after the car's initial introduction.

Outside of the M5, the next-generation 5-series will be available with a wide range of engines — including four, six and eight cylinder engines — although only the twin-turbo six and eight-cylinder engines are expected to make it to the U.S.

The new 5 will also have Park Distance Control and an around view monitor system, similar to Infiniti's Around View Monitor.

Interesting news, and I suspect a bit of it will change. I don't know about the 8spd tranny going in the 5er, maybe a 7spd though.

I'm also sure that they have to have some sort of NA base engine or something to rake in the profits.

I also have faith in Adrian van Hooydonk - possibly my favorite automotive designer (not because I drive one of his own of course ).

Can't wait for official performance figures from a V8TT.

Depends on whether the M Division stays true to its philosophy. Even at 500ps the V10 still outperforms the new V8TT by 100ps.

And their philosophy is to stick to high revving engines utilizing F1 tech. If F1 goes FI, then their engines will most likely go FI. With CAFE standards being a complete b*tch, I'm almost positive that the next engine for the M5 will have some sort of forced induction.

Should say if F1 goes BACK to FI

Awesome....I read that the new TTV8 will match the time of the M5 in the 1/4 mile
