Poll: Convention lifts McCain over Obama

WASHINGTON — The Republican National Convention has given John McCain and his party a significant boost, a USA TODAY/Gallup Poll taken over the weekend shows, as running mate Sarah Palin helps close an "enthusiasm gap" that has dogged the GOP all year.

McCain leads Democrat Barack Obama by 50%-46% among registered voters, the Republican's biggest advantage since January and a turnaround from the USA TODAY poll taken just before the convention opened in St. Paul. Then, he lagged by 7 percentage points.

The convention bounce has helped not only McCain but also attitudes toward Republican congressional candidates and the GOP in general.

In the new poll, taken Friday through Sunday, McCain leads Obama by 54%-44% among those seen as most likely to vote. The survey of 1,022 adults, including 959 registered voters, has a margin of error of +/— 3 points for both samples.

The Real Clear Politics average has McCain up by 3.2%

The most recent USA Today/Gallup has McCain +10 and the Gallup Tracking shows McCain +5.

I took a political polling class during my years in college and the most important thing we learned from the class at the end of the semester was:

Polls don't mean shit. They change more than a bi-polar women in a personality contest.

Polls are nothing short then a "keeping us busy" activity. For all we know McCain could really be up by 10% or down 10%

WRONG. polls do not reflect actual vote count by any means. HOWEVER, media controls polls, different political parties control media (like FOX NEWS), and whoever wins the polls is "believed" to have won the elections. it's a psych game of convincing the public that one of the candidates won over the other.

we've seen that game planed in 00, and 04, and we will continue to see it until americans realize their democracy has been hijacked.

the fact is too that Obama is difficult to poll...in Cali he was up just pre-vote and IN THE EXIT POLLS...but Hillary killed him...people were lying to the pollster (saying they voted for Obama) so as not appear racist...when the pulled the lever for Hillary
