BMW press release

M Sports Package for the new BMW 5 Series Sedan and the new BMW 5 Series Touring.

The M Sports Package for the new BMW 5 Series Saloon and for the new BMW 5 Series Touring will be presented simultaneously in September 2010. The package, which was developed by the BMW M GmbH, comprises components that have been specifically adapted to match the suspension, the aerodynamics, and the exterior and interior design of each model. The M sports suspension, M aerodynamics package and 18-inch M light alloys featuring a double spoke design contribute towards enhanced driving dynamics and an exceptionally powerful appearance. Moreover, optionally available features include 19-inch M light alloys as well as an M rear spoiler for the saloon.

Sports seats featuring Alcantara / fabric upholstery especially developed for the M Sports Package give the interior a particularly sporting ambience. The upholstery’s exclusive character is underlined by high-grade materials, contrasting seams and the M emblem applied to the seat. Further interior features included in the M Sports Package comprise, inter alia, an M leather-clad steering wheel, an M gear lever knob, the M footrest, an anthracite BMW Individual roof lining and M aluminium hexagon interior trim strips.

Does anyone know if you can delete the hexagonal aluminum trim and do wood trim instead? What about leaving the original aluminum shadowline? Or is it all or nothing?

In Europe yes, you can do this. Sometimes its at no cost and other times a small upgrade cost - it depends on the material chosen.

But why change, it looks so good...

I am about to order my 535i for ED in September. I plan to order it with Dynamic Handling Package and Sport Package. Now M-Sport Package will be available in October and I have a decision to make: Dynamic Handling Package and Sport Package or M-Sport Package. Currently I drive a 1999 328i with sport suspension. I don't care too much about cosmetic look of the M-Sport Package. The only items that I care about are:
1. the firmer and lower suspension
2. the special fabric/leather sport seat, and
3. the non-RFT ( I beleive the M-Sport Package for E60 has non-RFT).

Is the M-Sport suspension handle better than the Dynamic Handling Package in "Sport" or "Sport Plus" mode?

Welcome any comments on the two options.

Thanks.

I would love to know this also.

It looks like M-Sport using the rocker switch has the ability to stiffen up the suspension and increase the performance like the DHP. It is hard to tell if the M-Sport Version is lower from the photographs.

It appears that the photo in post #7 above shows a car without the M-sport suspension but with the Dynamic Damper Control control option.

Based on the report from Robin Hood who has collected his M-sport suspension equipped 535 (see:http://f10.5post.com/forums/showpost...1&postcount=19), the Dynamic Driving Control only allows for Normal/Sport/Sport+ settings.

The two chassis set-ups cannot be mixed!

If order the M-Sport Package and try to add Dynamic Damping Control (VDC) you lose the M-Sport chassis, you will get a standard chassis (no lowered springs, no M tuned damper or bushing). It will look like an M-Sport, sitting higher, and drive like any other standard chassis 5 with VDC.

M-Sport... Personal opinion... not that great

Hi

It is personal opinion but i am not a huge fan of the new M-Sport shape, the back the reflectors are tooo high, i don't like the wheel options you are limited to, i have the dynamic pack with suspension etc so the sides and ride hight seems about the same and the front is passable but not great

Just seems to have been a lot of hype for not much delivery

I'll agree with that. I'm kinda, "meh..." on the whole package. In general I like the front end treatment, but the rest doesn't do much for me. Likely looks better in person, though.

So far I haven't seen any wheel options on the F10 that I'm crazy about, but more often than not I find BMW's wheel choices to be a bit too busy looking.

In the interior picture above there is a Sport/Comfort button... what option when you are buying your car does that come with?

Interesting. I was making an educated guess based on the Comfort vs Normal vs Sport settings shown in the picture. I know on my E60, we got a Sports button when you ordered the Sport Automatic Transmission. Perhaps it is the SAT option though in the E60 it was a simple on/off type switch.

+1 For my taste the M-Sport exterior aesthetic is over cooked.

I wonder if the lowered M-Sport Suspension can be retrofitted to a July 2010 build 550i?
