Lightbulb F10 versus E60 Size and Photo Comparison

Featured on HOMEPAGE.

Here are the best F10 vs. E60 5-series comparison photos we've seen yet. Despite being visually larger, based on actual dimensions, the F10 is actually only very slightly larger, being:
  • 2 inches longer
  • 0.5 inches wider
  • 0.2 inches lower in height
  • wheelbase that's 3.2 inches longer

Photos courtesy of ricracing. Per ricracing:

The 2008 LCI E60 is Sapphire Black with 19” 172 M’s and the 2010 F10 is Jet black with 20” 312’s. Both cars are 520dA’s and have standard suspension.

Nice comparo! Everyone always makes the F10 to be so much bigger than the E60 when it's actually not. Yea the F10 is definitely heavier but not really bigger.

Both cars look great, even the older E60. Though the F10 definitely looks more modern and fresher.

i think people also confuse/intertwine the f10's extra size and weight difference with actual drive "feel". Most e60 owners report the f10 suspension/drive feel is "different"/softer than the e60's..even when equipped with all the technological gadgetry.....

unfortunately drive feel is so subjective it's a hard discussion/debate.....

as stated on other threads...the f10 is more luxury than sport, more of a small 7 and not a big 3...not saying that's a bad thing....

in this comparison the changes seem to be so subtle, props to bmw to sticking to a solid classic design, but at the same time I would not mind seeing something radical

love the wheels on the new 5

Nice comparison. Personally, I think the F10 looks a little bland. I'm not a huge fan of th E60, but at least it looked unique. The F10 just isn't very distinctive.

I think BMW is falling back in the habit of designing different lengths of the same sausage. Nice sausages to be sure, but not very distinctive.

A very good comparison. The F10 is a nice car. Heavier? Too bad, but most new cars are.

Hah. Am I the only one that didn't find the E60 repulsive?

not at all. With good gear (Msport etc) it looks awesome and aggressive. The f10 sometimes looks like a e90 tuning project imho it's gotten a bit more bland and lost characteristics. It's different, but still a cool looking car.

Call me crazy...........but i like the E60 way more.
I'm even thinking about an 09/10 M5 coming off a lease in a few years.
The itch to have a V-10 sitting in my garage is getting worse by the day.

The F10 is definitely the best looking 5-series to date.

The F10 in most pics looks waaaaaaay bigger- and it should.

Adding 2 inches to length and 3 inches to wheelbase is a HUGE jump from 1 gen to the next. Just look at the competition and you won't see nearly the same fig's. The E-class, Infiniti M, Lexus GS, Audi A6 etc did not have this much of a size difference between them. Then there's the weight issue.
The new F10 550i is within a 100lbs. of weighing what a new Audi A8 weighs!

Now, I'm not saying the F10 looks bad or weighs to much.

What I am saying is with 7 years of development could not BMW have made the F10 look a little more sporting/less huge and drive a more sporting/less lux????

And the E60 looked HUGE next to the E39. Were some excellent shots on m5board.com showing that. Can't imagine a F10 and an E39.

The f10 looks beautiful next to the ugly E60 with its bangle butt and dame edna shaped headlights.
