Low Oil Level Warning

My car is only a few months old but I got a low engine oil warning. I thought it was a glitch so I ignored it the first few times but it kept returning so I added 1 quart of synthetic oil from the gas station. How can this be on a new car? I am planning to take it to the dealer to have them figure this out.

Actually, this is quite common, especially during the break-in period.

havent heard this on the regular 3 or 5 or 7
i know it was common on the M's

This used to be more common than today. In order to meet the emission standards, car engines today must be made to much tighter tolerances than those of yesterday, so as a result, don't leak or use oil as much. This also means that the breakin period is shorter. But, using some, especially if you are doing a lot of stop and go when new, is not unheard of.

Its common my car did the same thing. It only happened once, I topped off and have not had to do so since. I think this happened around 3,000 miles. I now have 10200.
