I would like to see more US production. There are a lot of people out of work in this country.

Believe me It matters. You have to remember the suppliers that are providing the robots all those parts. The robot doesn't know if one panel is slightly off. Also final assembly is pretty much all hand assembly with power assist tools where the quality and capability of people play a huge factor.

wow. just wow.
I wonder what the shell weighs prior to mounting anything. Looks light in weight. However, like one stated, seeing this makes me think that human interference is not required; are we creating smart machines or what?

This could have been filmed during their production trials where they would have been running the E60 on the same line.

In the case of the Z4, X3, X5, and X6 between 70 and 95% of the value of the parts content come from NON US or Canadian sources. Perhaps adding US/CDN content would improve the quality (hint: High Pressure Fuel Pump). Honda and Toyota have effectively become Domestic manufacturers by sourcing at least 60% of the value of the content of Accords and Camrys built in the US from suppliers that manufacture in the US/Canada.

BMW's philosophy was to harmonize the work of man and machine, utilizing robots for high precision, dangerous/hazardous and repetitive tasks. |

Watching that is like seeing a scene from Terminator .... stunning stuff!!
Hats off to those who put the whole process together too - the precision work is incredible.

Just think how many people the robot factories employ...
