Waiting on springs and painted reflectors...
Should have the Springs this week and hopefully refletors, next... Probably will not debadge, but might blackout the 550i badge (roundel I will leave untouched)... Thank you all for the nice comments. |

I personally prefer to original look of the roundel Oh but you need some sort of spoiler to set it of the rear. |

Here's a pic of a 20x9 F14 wheel I weighed today.
For comparison, here's the weight on a 20x8.5 One Piece Forged Monoblock, HRE P40. To put things in perspective, here's the weight on an 18x9.5 VMR VB3 (gravity cast). |

What a difference...
In this 'full black' configuration the car looks perfect.

now it looks like a real BMW .... H&R or some other springs is what I am doing next on mine.
looks jacked up on stock springs IMO. Bothers me every time I look at it. the reflectors don't look too bad on silver rims but with black rims they stick out like a sore thumb. debadging or blacking out the 550i gives the car a much cleaner look. Last edited by O.S.; 03-11-2011 at 09:34 PM.. |

Thanks guys. Great work Sonic MS!
Next week should have the 550i badge in matte black, chrome blinker trim in matte black, reflectors jet black and trim in handles vinyl coated and then, if I get around to it, take apart the front gloss black grills and go matte black on the inner (i.e. fins) in matte black. Car did settle a tiny bit in the back and the fender gap is now perfect (identical) front and back. Car rides really good on H&R. Thought there would be a trade off somewhere, but not very noticable at all (actually thought I was going to screw up the ride, not the case at all). ALL modes work and are as usable as they were prior to the install. I thought comfort mode would be really bouncy due to low rebound dampening on that setting with stiffer springs, but not the case and the ride is not harsh, either, in any mode (even Sport+). Updated pics were posted yesterday a few posts above us by Cal with SonicMS.
I'll post a couple more straight on side shot now that it has settled from being fresh off the rack and after BMW did some juju with the adaptive suspension (not sure if it did anything noticable or not). I'll provide more detail on that a bit later this weekend (really not sure what they did "entered new vehicle ride height") Sonic did the alignment and everything is perfect. BMW said something about doing an alignment with hooking up to the modues on the shock due to active steering IF the steering wheel was not straight or I was getting DSC errors which I am not. (thought I would let things settle and the have them due an alignment like that in a few weeks, but I really think the tech could have done that anyways as part of doing a thorough job entering the new values). Basically they split it into two different items 1. entering the new ride height and 2. alignment (while connected to the modules on the suspension). Sonic got everything perfect as confirmed by BMW...(I gave them the printout Sonic provided me). If your dealer is being stubborn, I would take it to another and just ask them to do "an electronic alignment and reset of the active suspension based on new ride height". Might want to give it a shot before ditching the springs. I am SO FAR really impressed with the ride on H&R (but it seemed fine even before taking it to BMW on freeway and in comfort mode too albeit only one evening to test). I roughly measured before and need to measure after... More info and pics later (I can't be certain here, but the gaps front to back seem more identical maybe after taking it to BMW, I'll look into that more, but maybe the front came up or maybe BMW raised it somehow as the tech's note read like he lowered the vehicle and entered the new ride height values)... Hope this is of some help for now (late for daughter's soccer game) |
