Fifth Gear Video Review: F10 535d M-sport vs. Jaguar XF Diesel S
BIMMERPOST NEWSFifth Gear Video Review: F10 535d M-sport vs. Jaguar XF Diesel S Fifth Gear's Vicki Henderson takes the 535d M-sport against the Jaguar XF Diesel S onto the track for a hotlap showdown at the Assen circuit. Both cars are powered by 6 cylinder turbo diesel engines. The 535d motor is good for 300hp and 440 pound-feet of torque, which covers 0-62mph in 5.7 seconds while achieving 46.3mpg. The Jaguar XF Diesel S has 275hp under the hood with its 3.0L AJV6D Generation III diesel turbo with 0-60 in 5.9 seconds and an MPG of 42mpg. Winner? Results inside. Share this story

F10 535d is 330 hp... according to the bmw website... I didn't know it made more power than the 535i (306 hp)... the diesel has better 0-60 times also, and the weight difference is only 50kg appx 100lb... not bad... at this point why buy the gasoline if active steering is also available for the diesel...

These cars would state about 10 miles less per gallon if tested for the US market. 10 miles per gallon is a pretty big difference. That's like being able to drive an extra 180 miles per tank with the 5er's 18+gal tank.

Only because US gallons are smaller. Another reason why everyone should switch to l/100 km instead of mpg.

Good to see somebody is building car-sized diesel engines other than the Germans. I guess this 535d uses the upgraded diesel engine: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...=diesel+engine

BMW still makes great engines (but lousy fuel pumps). I've driven the 335d and it was really impressive. Not as nice as my "dinanized" n54, but very impressive for a diesel.
Reallt is too bad about the steering. Steering feel and feedback is one of ther things that makes BMW cars special, set them apart from MB and the others. I really hope they get that electric steering dialed in for the new 3 series or my current 3 will be my last. |

Nice going, BMW. The 135 still has great bmw steering though, especially if you add the BMW PS.

I like fifth gear and I think Vicky is cute. OK, sure, Richard Hammond is cuter, but hey, I don't swing that way.

I just can not see how that Jaguar can get near the BMW, I drove the same Jag diesel and it was crap compared to the 35D BMW.

Fifth gear cannot really be trusted when comparing German and British cars. I have seen this for years. I find Top gear more onest about the state of the UK car industry.
