COST of the GT, I'm sure, has also had a biiiiiiig impact. I don't think it's so unattractive in person, but a fully loaded xdrive 550i GT is well over 90 grand...no WAY would I pay that much for that kind of car in such an oddly indescribable segment

I agree with this point too. I really wouldn't mind one in the garage, especially for taking long highway trips and commuting, but I find the price to be very high.

I think BMWNA should do a bit more market research for the F31. A 330d or 335d touring might sell in larger volumes than a 328i. Would be an easy way to differentiate the product from the current X3 options, as well as from the few competitors that currently still offer wagons.

I still like the 5GT as a concept, I get it, I get the point to it, and If I could afford one - I would consider owning one... so my problem isn't the GT vs the Tourer.. it's just that the F07 doesn't really look good from many angles at all.. if they'd applied the X6 styling to the 5GT it would have been a proper winner. It looks better in the flesh though, and a very low mileage approved used example is probably similar money the the F11 too.

Couldn't agree more. Tired of their stupid marketing department making all the decisions, if it was up to them they never would have done the 1M.....they are a bunch of number crunchers with no grip on their core market or loyalists wants.

So if this is a punch in their gut, then to me this is great news!!

Audi are not bringing the A6 Avant because the Q7 decimated it's sales
And Mercedes-Benz's E-Klasse is not making the same impact as it does in Europe. Also Mercedes-Benz introduce a new ML-Klasse next month before it arrives in the autumn. Expect that to infiltrate the T-Modell sales.
Oh, don't worry, I'm not too excited for BMW at all right now. All 3 models in our garage either aren't being replaced, or aren't being brought to America-

07 M Coupe (toy)
07 530XiT (family car)
04 X3 (6-speed manual) (wife's car)

It'll be some sort of record if BMW manages to lose a customer whom has 3 BMW's in his garage, and has to go to other manufacturers to replace all 3 of them with something comparable....

Sure, I get it, BMW doesn't sell a lot of wagon's in the U.S. However, those that did buy them did so to own a wagon, not just a BMW. And their loyality is going to lie more with the functionality of a wagon over the BMW brand. In other words, you'll lose current customers getting rid of it, as opposed to just moving those customers to other cars within the lineup.

If sales volume is all you're concerned with, I'd scared to death of what the next low-volume enthusiast-oriented car is on BMW's chopping block for the U.S....

If they had offered the 335i touring like in Europe, I would have. The 328i in the heavier wagon didn't work for me. I also thnk that there is a market for a 320d wagon in the US, as many diesel lovers are also into wagons. The 4 cylinder would be cheaper than a 335d and get much better mileage.

BMW is missing a huge potential by not bringing a fuel efficient, premium, utility car to the US. The only way to get in people's head that wagons are better than SUVs is to deliver the same utlity with better gas mileage. Diesel is the answer. If the F31 isn't coming to the US, they better at least bring a diesel X1.

Great news that the 3 series wagon will make it to the US. Woot!

Too bad about the current 5 series wagon as it is a very aesthetically appealing wagon, both compared to the prior generation 5 series wagon, and current marketplace offerings.

I have to agree I think a 330d or 335d wagon would be cool, but I'm a bit skeptical about its chances at overall sales success. Of course, VW sells Jetta TDI wagons like hotcakes in the states.

As for the GT, it was a neat idea as many Americans are gravitating towards cross-overs, but probably to get out of poorly handling, gas guzzling, truck-chassis based SUVs. Most people buy wagons for the actual increased storage room and the GT was an epic fail in that regard - it actually regressed on usable storage room. I am not even going to address the Aztek issue - the mileage also SUCKS.

Cheers!

However, neither of these seem possible. One can only hope.

the X1 is coming to US in the fall

That was two or three rumors ago. Last I heard, they are putting it off until late next year, basically when the X1 gets its LCI.

I currently own and happily drive an E46 Touring as my daily driver. When the time comes to replace, I would buy a 335 Touring or a diesel Touring in a heartbeat. No X3 or 3 series/5 series GT for me.
