BIMMERPOST NEWSBMW F10 528xi and 535i Hybrid Scheduled to Debut This Fall The AWD xi version of the 528i, along with a hybrid version of the 535i will be both be debuting this fall in the US market. The 528xi will begin production for the US in September and like the 2012 528i (which will also begin production in September) it will begin its life being powered by BMW's N20 4-cylinder turbocharged engine with 240hp / 260lb-ft tq (more details). The F10 lineup will also see a hybrid model for the first time with the 535i ActiveHybrid, which begins production in December of this year. The 535i ActiveHybrid will be powered by the N55 turbo six cylinder motor (which makes 306hp in the 535i), mated to an electric motor making 54 more horsepowers. We expect it to come in the Bluewater Metallic seen in the earlier spy photos below, a signature color for BMW hybrid vehicles. The prototype pictured below is likely not showing the final body work as there will be unique wheels and bumper styling. For a full breakdown of the production schedule for the entire 2012 5-series model lineup, please see the following chart. More info on 535i ActiveHybrid (from BMW's description of the F10 ActiveHybrid Concept) Quote:

Same reason the 640i isn't being offered initially. Get people who want the car to buy the more expensive version, then once they are weeded out, bring the cheaper model in.

Should be a 535d being released instead of the hybrid. Very disappointed. BMW had a great opportunity here to expand the diesel lineup.
Sales of the diesels have gotten much stronger and I guarantee the hybrid won't do 0-60 in 5.7 seconds and have a full tank range of 700 miles. The 535 hybrid will not be a success.

I think the reason there are not too many diesel hybrids are because of the added cost....diesel engines are more to start with, then you add the cost of hybrid tech. |

I think the 535 hybrid will do well and particularly in those countries with high import duties which also offer deep concessions on import duties on hybrids. BMW's conservative speak on increased dynamic prowess translates into a 535 that is going to even more of a hoot to drive with the extra power, barring power-sapping weight increase from the hybrid add-ons.

Diesel please!
Exactly! BMW makes great diesel cars, and I truly believe that diesel is way greener than hybrid. I still dont think that battery is green, but I know diesel and biodiesel are the future. If you want to make hybrid, try plug-in or diesel hybrid like BMWi. Just like I said, BMW makes amazing diesel cars. They are fun to drive, quiet, and fuel efficient. So please bring diesel lineup to the US! Especially that 640d which only 0.1 sec slower than 640i 0-60mph!

Will you buy it for the first year debut!? Better wait and see, it sounds like trouble to me after reading the description...

SCOTT, can you shed any light on why the MY 2012 535i/xi GT are ending production in February 2012? It seems unlikely that it would be due to the model year switching at that point, especially just for one particular model and trim level. Is something set to replace them at that time? If it were the 550i/xi GT being discontinued due to low sales, I could see the rationale. But I have to believe that the I6 models are getting much more of the sales in the US (and everywhere else for that matter) than the V8 models.

We just need to offer a diesel version period via the 520d or 535d.

They will most likely pay the difference. It a shitty thing but it happens.
Wait for them to come back with the approval. They always try and give you a low ball offer first. The only thing I would recommend is to make sure to have OEM parts only. My last ///M got into an accident at a construction site. The construction company took blame for it. there insurance adjuster wrote me a check for $2k which I refused to take. Took it to BMW and ask for the OEM AC Schnitzer parts and the bill came out to $16k. So they totalled her. ![]() She is now the reason why I have a new car. . She will be missed.
