I currently have a 2008 550i sport with the paddles. I test drove a 550i xDrive last week and it did not have the sport transmission. The brochure does not show it as an available option.

Would anyone who owns a 2011 550i xDrive be able to validate the sports auto option (w/ paddles)?

I'm not an owner yet, but I test drove one that had it, I ordered mine with that option and the "Build Your Own" configurator on bmwusa.com lets you choose it.

5.0L comes with auto transmission as standard. Not absolutely sure for the xDrive but possibly its the same as 550i with an additional cost of about 500$ to get the Sports automatic transmission (w/paddles).

In the USA car configurator this in in the options list and unlike the rest of the models only Sport automatic transmission is available which means that it comes standard with the auto transmission.

Yes, this option is available on the 550i w/XDrive if you configure your car with the Sport Package. I have this option and it's taken me some time to get used to the shift points in the lower gears but it's so much fun to drive.
